Comfort the Children ICT Specialist Job Vacancy (KShs 18,000)

This position is based out of Comfort the Children (CTC)’s office in Maai Mahiu, Kenya and reports to the CTC Kenya National Director.

The position is split between general ICT support for CTC International office, and scheduled ICT training and support for Rafiki Link, a CTC Education program.

Rafiki Link is a technology-based sister school program which links schools in Maai Mahiu Division, Naivasha District, Kenya in a community of friendship and support with schools in other parts of the world.

The goals of Rafiki Link in Kenya are:

To provide an environment for authentic mutual cultural exchange with peers on the other side of the worldTo build participatory leadership, awareness, and compassion amongst youthTo understand and build youth connections with the work done by CTC in KenyaTo build a base of community leaders in KenyaTo develop 21st century work force skills around technology and online collaborationFor further information, please see http://www.ctcinternational.org/ and http://www.rafikilink.org/.

This position will facilitate the technological side of the Rafiki Link in Kenya and will provide general support to the CTC office staff.

Responsibilities

Train staff & teachers at partner schools in use of information technology for the purpose of international school-to-school communication

Train students & teachers in the independent use of blogs, facebook, youtube, and other online spacesMaintain a curriculum and schedule of training activities at each school which is approved by school administration & posted in the staff areaFacilitate information transfer from Kenya to North America and vice versa
Help to type information collected from students into the computerUpload/send text, photos, and videos to North AmericaPrint and photocopy any communications sent from North America to Kenya (ensure copies go to school administration)Maintain donated equipment and supplies
Repair any equipment (computer, modem, camera) promptlyAssist schools in setting up, maintaining and using their internet connectionsPurchase any needed suppliesRepair and troubleshoot any ICT equipment (computer, modem, camera) promptly and quicklyMaintain CTC office networksActively prevent theft, virus infection, and unauthorized usage of all CTC and Rafiki Link computersThe desired candidate will have:
A creative mind, open to new ideas and projectsGood team spiritExperience developing curriculum, and teaching or trainingVery comfortable with email and online communicationFamiliar with blogs, social media, YoutubeComfortable editing, and sharing image and video files onlineExperience working as part of on-line networks (formal or informal)Familiarity with North American culture and education systems an assetTime commitment: Full-time contract, January – December 2011, with possibility of extension.

Compensation: 18,000 Ksh per month
