Study Accountant Job in Kenya - The KEMRI/University of Washington Study

Position: Study Accountant

Supervisor: Director, Research and Programs

Position Summary: The Administrative Accountant reports to the Director Research and Programs and is responsible for assisting with general corporate accounting.

He/she will work to ensure that operational financial transactions are correctly administered and that all vouchers are processed in a timely and efficient manner.

He/she is responsible for compiling the quarterly imprest for submission to the University of Washington Seattle office.

Responsibilities:

Field advance applications from the Seattle office.Financial data entry into Quick Books software.Preparing cashbooks and bank reconciliations.Preparing and submitting monthly financial reports to the immediate supervisor.Preparing monthly cash forecasts and needed funds projections. Reviewing travel expenses and ensuring that travel advances are properly accounted for and fully reconciled.Preparing checks paying KEMRI/UW casual staff, vendors, sub-grantees and consultants.Maintaining financial records and custodian of documentation supporting all financial transactions.Performing ad hoc financial analysis and as may be assigned by the supervisor.Document and disseminate financial management case studies, best practices and lessons learned.The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job and is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions associated with a job.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

At least three years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and work experienceDegree in one of the following or related fields: Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, International Administration or International BusinessKnowledge of accounting principlesProficient in MS Word, Excel and QuickBooksExcellent communication skillsAbility to work effectively in a highly collaborative team approachWillingness to adapt to changing work demands.Capacity to work simultaneously on multiple tasks and projects, while still meeting program priorities.Knowledge of financial regulations on PEPFAR funded projects is an added advantage.Terms of Employment:

One (1) year renewable contract as per KEMRI Scheme of Service. The successful candidate shall undergo a three (3) months probationary period upon initiation of employment.
