World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Jobs in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is one of the World’s largest International Conservation Non Governmental Organization, working towards the conservation of nature and sustainable development.

WWF has recently established a major regional programme - the “Coastal East Africa Initiative” (CEA-NI), based in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, but working on biodiversity conservation and sustainable development issues across the Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique region.

WWF is seeking to recruit qualified candidates for the following 3 positions to work on the CEA-NI.

1. Government Aid Agency (GAA) Officer

Reporting to the Leader, Coastal East Africa Initiative, this position plays a lead coordination role with the WWF Country offices in the CEA region to strategically engage with all the development partners on two major fronts 1) joint collaboration around environmental \ development policies, and 2) major GAA fundraising for the CEA Initiative.

The position is responsible for building Staff capacity of GAA work, co-ordinating the planning and development of work with GAAs that are active in their country/region, based on WWF’s Program and priorities.

The GAA Officer will also develop, organize and train Staff in proposal writing, policy work, policy instruments and communication and reporting / financial management tools/systems

Requirements:

Advanced University degree in Natural Resources Management, economics or a management Science; Minimum of 5 years policy work experience and strong fundraising track record and strong track record of successful project funding applications; Ability to work in teams, intercultural teams; demonstrated capacity building skills.Excellent organizational and networking skills; Ability to open doors and build relationships of confidence with donor community;Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills in English; Kiswahili and Portuguese an advantage;2. Governance Advisor

Reporting to the Leader, Coastal East Africa Initiative, this position, this position shall provide support and advisory services relating to governance processes, policy, institutional strengthening, Engagement of civil society, payment for environmental services regimes, and trade and investment within the CEA NI.

The Advisor shall facilitate the work and build capacity of the WWF Country Offices and Site-based Projects in this regard. Identifies emerging environmental governance challenges in the region and leads the development and implementation of appropriate strategies to address these.

Provides direction and support to the Marine and Terrestrial Heads to ensure the coherence and integration of the CEA NI sector strategies (i.e. marine, forest, trade, conservation) within a sound governance strategy;

Requirements:

An advanced degree in political sciences, natural resource management and/or other relevant social or environmental sciences;Minimum of10 years experience as an advisor or policy-maker in the field of environmental governance, social development, sustainable development, environmental economics or natural resource management;Proven experience on engaging with senior decision makers at a high level – corporate, government and government aid agencies;Strong understanding of governance, social development, politics, lobbying and advocacy3. Landscape Coordinator - Ruvuma

Reporting to the Head of Terrestrial, this position coordinates the overall initiatives of WWF in this Landscape.

Provides leadership and a focal point for the activities as defined in the Ruvuma Strategy document.
Mobilizes resources required for delivery (human, financial, partnerships) and achievement of its goals.
Develops effective management orientated monitoring systems to ensure adaptive management of the program me and “learning from doing” in coherence with the CEA-NI strategy and its M&E systems.
Develops and implements a communications and outreach strategy to ensure the dissemination of knowledge on the Ruvuma Landscape and its socio-ecological system, active engagement of stakeholders from local and community level to national and regional bodies in the Ruvuma Landscape initiative University degree, at least to level of MSc. in relevant Environmental or Social Sciences ;10 years minimum of field and management working experience in one or (ideally more than one) of Miombo ecosystem management, protected/conservation area management, CBNRM, forest management and other relevant fields in the region (preferably Mozambique or Tanzania); Experience in PES or forest carbon issues an additional plus. Excellent management,co-ordination, interpersonal, facilitation, communication and leadership skillsExperience in technical programme implementation and reporting and adaptive programme management through management orientated monitoring systems.Ability to operate as part of a team.Experience in project/programme reporting and management planning.Location: All positions will be based in Dar es Salaam
