Capacity Building/M&E Coordinator


Since its inception in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has been a global leader in emergency response and providing durable solutions for conflict- and crisis-affected populations. The IRC launched programs in Kenya in the immediate aftermath of the post-election crisis, and has initiated activities that support women and girls in the Dadaab refugee camps through a variety of activities including health and GBV prevention and response programming.

IRC is currently preparing a proposal in response to a USAID-funded request for applications to expand the presence of GBV prevention and response programming throughout Kenya and support the development of peace networks and platforms for women to be effectively involved in decision making and take leadership of their country. The Capacity Building/Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist will be responsible for working with Kenya NGOs and CBOs on GBV and gender issues, providing on-site capacity building, mentoring, and training as needed and requested by partners.
Responsibilities:

• Ensure that ethical and sound data collection and information management systems are developed and upheld for GBV analysis, planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
• Support and mentor IRC staff to develop their technical and management skills, especially in monitoring and evaluation, according to project work plans.
• Participate in assessments, planning and efforts to strengthen the program, providing guidance and information about the safety and security needs of women and girls.
• Oversee/conduct trainings for community leaders, women’s groups, and other partners.
• Coordinate with other relevant project or programs linked to GBV and women’s peace networks, providing relevant input and support whenever required.
• Meet and work closely with women’s groups and networks in order to develop and implement capacity building plans and activities.
• Actively develop and maintain effective working relationships with local and key stakeholders throughout the country including community, local, and national women’s groups and networks.
• Introduce technically sound, international best practices and standards, appropriate to meet the needs of GBV survivors in relevant communities.

Requirements:

• Master’s Degree or higher in social work (MSW), public health (MPH),humanities, international affairs, other related field preferred.
• Minimum of two-three years of professional experience in implementing and overseeing complex programs in a humanitarian or development context, specifically GBV programming or direct service provision to survivors of violence.
• Experience in conflict, leadership, and peace programming at the local and national level in Kenya.
• Exceptional gender, GBV, leadership, and other sector-specific technical skills and knowledge from a Kenya perspective.
• Experience working, coordinating, and networking with a variety of actors at different levels in Kenya particularly implementing related project monitoring & evaluation plans.
• Knowledge, skills and experience in participatory methods of community development and mobilization with local actors.
• Strong background in monitoring and evaluation of project activities.
• Experience working with or in US Government-funded projects is strongly recommended.
• Demonstrated skills and experience in training, capacity building, and mentoring activities for national staff and local NGO or CBOs.
• Ability to travel upon request.
• Fluency in spoken and written English, Swahili a plus.
