DRIVERS: (5 months contract till 31st December 2011) CARE International in Kenya is seeking to employ dynamic and highly motivated individuals with strong problem solving and interpersonal skills for the position of Drivers. The position is based in the Emergency
and Refugee Operations (ERO) Project in Dadaab, Garissa County and will entail traveling within and outside the region. Reporting to the Administration Officer, the Driver will be responsible for the safe driving and care of the organizations vehicles and property ensuring that she/he complies with the traffic regulations and CARE’s vehicle policies and regulations.
Key Responsibilities and tasks.Drive Organization vehicles to specified and authorized destinations transporting staff, other authorized passengers and materials in a safe manner.
Check validity of vehicles insurance, road license and police inspection stickers and report status to the senior driver.
Make sure all vehicle tools and accessories are taken care of and are checked daily.
Update vehicles logbook particulars by making sure right entries are made.
Ensure all entries in the logbook are entered daily.
Ensure that un-authorized passengers/ loads are not carried as per the organization policies.
Comply with traffic speed limits, escort rules and schedules.
Report all vehicle defects and accidents to the supervisor.
Ensure that personal driving license is valid and duly signed at all times.
Required qualifications and competencies.Minimum O level secondary education.
A Valid accident free driving license with Class B, C, E.
Three years experience in a busy organization performing driving responsibilities
Good communication, writing & interpersonal skills in English and Kiswahili.
Ability and willingness to work in a difficult environment.
NGO experience and basic skills in mechanics and first aid will be an added advantage.
Computer skills are an added advantage. LANDFILL WORKER. (Based in Hagadera Camp) CARE International in Kenya is looking for a suitably qualified candidate to fill the position of Landfill worker within its Emergency and Refugee Operations Program in Northern Kenya. The position is based in Hagadera camp and the candidate will report to the Sanitation Officer. The incumbent will be responsible for management of the waste dumped in the landfill and safe guarding of equipment and facilities in the landfill. Key responsibilities and tasksSalvage waste polythene papers dumped in the landfill from other wastes for recycling at the Plastics Recycling Center adjacent to the landfill.
Spreading and leveling the waste heaps in the landfill in layers and covering them with soil.
Keeping away intruders from getting access to the landfill.
General management of the land fill site including conservancy.
Required qualifications and competencies.Minimum primary school education.
Fluent in spoken Kiswahili and some understanding of English.
Relevant experience will be an added advantage or show ability and enthusiasm to manage waste.
Self motivated to work under minimum supervision
