Job Vacancies at World Vision Kenya: National Child Rights Coordinator

World Vision Kenya is a leading non-governmental Christian humanitarian, relief, development and advocacy1 organization with projects in most parts of Kenya.

We wish to urgently recruit a highly competent, proactive and self-driven person to fill the following position within our organization.

National Child Rights Coordinator (based in Nairobi)

Purpose of the positions:

To provide overall leadership for Child Rights (Including Child Protection) programs and projects in World Vision Kenya, overseeing/ coordinating the planning and implementation, integration of Child Rights/Protection activities and Grant projects into on-going ADP programs by ensuring multi sectoral approach is employed in advancing Child Rights programming.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership in Child Rights/Protection Advocacy programs and projects.
  • Overseeing and coordinating public and policy affairs unit
  • Coordinate preparation of Child Rights/Protection Strategy and annual planning and innovative visioning for WV and overall programming in child rights protection issues
  • Overall coordination and reporting of Child protection and child participation activities
  • Resource mobilization for child rights and Child Protection programming through concept papers/proposal writing for fund raising and market them with World Vision Support Offices and other donors
  • Linkages with government and partnership structures that guarantee continued budgetary support for child rights protection projects.
  • Work with other sector specialist within and outside WVK to implement a Child Rights/Protection learning system to document, assess, share and replicate these practice
  • Develop/adapt training curriculum/manuals on Child Rights Advocacy such as FGM Manuals
  • Assist in integration of Child Rights /Protection Advocacy interventions in the ADP and project Design documents
  • Conduct Child Rights Protection project monitoring on Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly and annual visits and evaluation on child rights
  • Train WVK staff to be able to integrate Child Rights/Protection Advocacy into other development programs on Child Rights programming issues within the programs/projects
  • Promote participation of children in WVK program cycle and encourage representation of the views of children as empowered partners
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Masters degree in Social Sciences, Community Development and Legal field and related fields.
  • First degree with over 5 years experience in Child Right programming in a senior position will also be considered
  • At least with 5 years practical experience in Child Rights, Child Protection, and Advocacy with preferably an international NGO
  • Experience in program planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Child Participation and Protection programs
  • Training, facilitation, mobilization and coordination skills
  • Resources mobilization through Proposal/concept papers development for fund raising
  • Working knowledge of Rights Based programming and Child to Child methodologies
  • Development of Training Manuals in Child Rights and Child Protection programming
  • Partnership and networking with relevant GoK Ministries, Civil Societies Organization (CSO) and both local and international NGOs in Child Right/Protection programming
  • Experience in developing successful, community-based Child Participation and Protection programs
  • Keen sense of justice especially in pursuit of legal Aid for abused children and gender equity
  • Willingness to abide to WV Values, Mission and Vision.
