Tech Support Engineer

Our client, a highly innovative telecom company, with the vision to enable affordable mass-market voice and data communications in developing countries is seeking to recruit a Tech Support Engineer
Duties and Responsibilities
- Providing outstanding customer experience.
- Working with a team of engineers to deliver a service with outstanding uptime, reliability, resilience, and quality.
- Being available during 12-hour shifts to receive alerts from the organization’s monitoring systems and respond to them immediately.
- Receive, resolve, and route trouble tickets raised by other departments, when they affect the technical side of the service.
- Follow up on escalated tickets and provide timely feedback to the originator on progress and resolution.
- Monitor the network and systems using standard industry tools, and providing first-level support on them.
Qualifications:
- Strong, hands-on technical background on Linux platforms and software. You must have worked and be comfortable with the Linux command-line, installing and configuring software, and troubleshooting. This means looking at logs, setting up daemons, installing software from sources, pulling git repositories and updating installed software, and so on.
- Strong, hands-on technical background on backbone/carrierwireless systems (Ubiquiti / Mikrotik preferred) and carrier networks (fiber, datacenter infrastructure, on-call support). You must have configured, installed, and monitored wireless equipment – actually configured – receiving pre-configured or remotely-managed equipment that you just bolted to a wall doesn’t count.
- Knowledge and practical experience with RADIUS protocols, HTML, and PHP/Javascript
- Knowledge and practical experience installing and managing MySQL databases, including knowledge of SQL commands.
- Self-driven and able to get self-taught on new software and systems, with some guidance.
- Commitment to client satisfaction.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
- Self-confidence with ability to lead by example.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency with smartphones, tables, and computers, including their configuration and maintenance, and resolution of end-user issues.
