Position: Clinical Officer / Pediatric Department

Responsible To: AAA and Hope For Sick and Poor

Works With: Health facility staff

Location: Gordhim, South Sudan

Starting Date: 1st March 2016

Overall Objective: To support civil society organizations to increase access to quality of pediatric services, child and neonatal health care services to the population of South Sudan in Gordhim.
 

Key responsibilities include amonggs others:

• supervision of pediatric department,


• preparation and implementation of trainings,


• supervision of community workers,


• supervision and responsibility for the reconstruction of pediatric department,


• responsibility for pediatric pharmacy, drugs and vaccination,


• responsibility for examination,


• cooperation with other departments,


• responsibility for the staff in pediatric department,


• responsibility to the local offices, public health office, ministry of health and other institutions,


• preparing & submitting various periodic reports to AAA, Hope for sick and poor and the MOH


• ensures that children and babies receive quality care,


• ensure availability of equipment and supplies in pediatric department


• responsibility for submitting regular reports on activities of pediatric department,


• ensure the dissemination of health education messages to mothers and the community at large,


• ensure that mothers and new born babies receive scheduled immunizations,


• ensure that examinations of patients are well managed and that referrals of complicated cases are done in a timely manner.

Job and Person Specification

• Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution


• Registered with the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya


• At least 2 years experience in a similar role


• Experience in pediatric department


• Good organisational and communication skills


• Ability to live and work in conditions of limited comfort


• Willing and capable of working long hours with minimal supervision


• Basic life support trainig


• Training experience and community education skills


• Knowledge of the English is necessary and local language (Dinka) is an added advantage


• Able to work under pressure and have the ability to write clear and concise reports


• Work with PC (Word, Excel, Internet)


• Well developed communication skills, a eam player with excellent written and spoken English


•  Experience of establishing strong working relationships with colleagues from different functions and cultures
