Short Term Consultancy to be based in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda.
The World Bank’s Urban, Rural and Resilience – Social Global Practice (GSURR) seeks to recruit Short Term Consultants (STCs) as Social Development and Safeguards Consultants for the Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda Country Offices to support the social safeguards and social development programs in the country offices.
The Consultants will address the day-to-day safeguards preparation, implementation, and monitoring using appropriate knowledge of the World Bank’s social safeguards policies, in particular, focusing on vulnerable and marginalized groups and OP4.12 (Involuntary Resettlement).
For day-to-day operational work, the Social Development and Safeguards Specialist Consultant will work closely with the Senior Social Development Specialists, respective Task Team Leaders both in
Washington and Country Office, government officials and partner organizations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultants will assist Urban, Rural and Resilience – Social Global Practice (GSURR) to provide continuous and timely support to the Country Management Units (CMUs) and sector staff on social safeguards issues in the specific countries.
The Consultants will support the projects under implementation and preparation, this will include among other tasks: technical advice to the client, input to the Project Concept and Appraisal documents, review of various social safeguard related documents, timely identification of risks and mitigation measures; monitoring of projects through field visits and provision of training to the project implementation teams and any other support as requested.
The candidate for this position will work under the guidance of the Senior Social Development Specialist on the dayto-day social safeguards and other social development work programs, including working, as needed, with others in the team or in other Bank units.
Selection Criteria and Electronic Applications:
The successful candidate should be a holder of at least a Master’s or its equivalent in a social or relevant sociological, anthropological or interdisciplinary field with at least 7 years or more of demonstrated experience in social development and safeguard compliance.
Knowledge of the World Bank social safeguard policies related, in particular focusing on vulnerable, marginalized groups and Involuntary Resettlement (OP4.12) will be a plus.
S/he will have sound technical, analytical, systems and writing and communications skills, as well as a thorough working knowledge of Bank operating, fiduciary and administrative processes or the ability and willingness to learn Bank processes.
