Background: Jacaranda Health is a social venture that aims to

set a new standard for maternity care in East Africa. 



We are combining business and

clinical innovations to provide affordable maternity and reproductive health

services to low-income urban women. 


We have launched one clinic in

Nairobi last year, and are currently expanding to other locations in the

region.

Nursing Education & Professional

Development Manager

 


Job Summary: The position is responsible for providing

leadership for professional development and implementation of programs and

support services that enhance the theoretical knowledge and clinical practice

of the nursing/midwifery workforce. 


This includes the planning and

development of education and training programs that complement the development

and review of policy and procedures with a strong focus on evidenced-based

practice.
 


The Manager will be accountable for

the development, coordination and evaluation of consistent clinical practice,

policies, protocols and procedures that are competency based.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Performs nursing practice by providing direct

    patient care.

  • Provides leadership in the development,

    implementation, and evaluation of standards of practice.

  • Plans and implements orientation and education

    programs.

  • Provides leadership in the development,

    implementation, and evaluation of standards of practice.

  • Actively participates in performance

    improvement programs to identify learning needs of the staff.

  • Collaborates with other health care

    disciplines within the hospital and community to develop and implement

    educational programs.

  • Provides consultation to nursing staff and

    other health care professionals.

  • Maintains practice excellence by utilizing

    practice opportunities for own professional growth and attending

    educational activities as needed.

  • Demonstrates professional commitment through

    membership in specialty organizations.

  • Assists with ongoing staff performance

    evaluations and to direct staff toward achieving optimum professional

    development as directed by the Hospital Manager, Chief Medical Office.

  • Takes part in program development and hospital

    committees, implementing the plan and providing staff training.

  • Stands in for the Hospital Manager when

    needed.

  • Promotes and participates in retention,

    recruitment, hiring and interviewing activities.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or its

    equivalent, Master’s Degree preferred

  • Minimum of 5-7 years midwifery experience.

  • Proficient in PC based computer skills, as

    well as Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Demonstrated experience in a nursing

    leadership role involving change management, motivational and team

    development skills together with the ability to apply complex problem

    solving strategies.


  • Demonstrated ability to develop, coordinate,

    deliver and evaluate education and training programs that incorporate

    contemporary adult learning principles.

  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing

    professional development and the capacity to apply knowledge and skills to

    develop innovative improvement strategies.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and

    facilitate the implementation of policy/guidelines and evidence based

    practice.

  • Demonstrated high level written and verbal

    communication skills including comprehensive reports and advice for key

    internal and external partners.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage key

    nursing and midwifery projects within required timeframes and to provide

    advice on project impacts and outcomes.

  • Proficient facilitation and presentation

    skills preferred alongside proficient computer skills.


Quality Improvement Coordinator. 


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive process management and improvement

    activities focusing on safety, satisfaction and efficiency – working

    across Jacaranda’s clinical, operational and business processes.

  • Serve as a champion of patient safety and

    hospital quality; pursuing understanding of the patient needs and the

    challenges unit and arena staff face in fulfilling assigned roles.

  • Provide leadership, training, and

    decision-making support to managers and clinical staff on continuous

    performance measurement and quality improvement activities.

  • Track and interpret key data to drive a

    continuous improvement culture.

  • Train hospital-level quality champions

    (usually nurses) in performance and quality improvement, lean/six sigma

    methodology

  • Educated to Degree level in business, nursing

    or statistics with experience/qualification in continuous improvement –

    Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.

  • Three years of applicable quality improvement

    experience, preferably (but not necessarily) in a healthcare setting.

  • Experience with quality processes, tools and

    methodologies (Root Cause Analysis, FMEA, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.),

    Utilization Management, and/or Risk Management principles and practices.
