About the role
Burn is seeking a Head of Policy to ensure a beneficial Tax regime across the countries in which we operate. The individual will be responsible for driving organizational success by pushing to establish a beneficial tax regime across Africa.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish Key priority markets and map a comprehensive landscape in those markets
- Engage with the relevant stakeholders in the cookstove business to develop industry policy, legislation, guidelines, and codes of practice.
- To identify events where BURN can play a leading role and where the company’s visibility would be increased as a market leader
- To work closely with the Legal and Compliance Department to ensure awareness of new regulations and spearhead engagement with various regulators
- To work closely with the Product Development/Management team and provide support on regulatory requests promptly
- Provide timely advisories on bills and newly enacted legislation to the business and formulate a strategic response to the same.
- To manage regulatory interventions which could affect the organization and ensure that regulators undertake all steps outlined in the law before effecting any changes
- To recommend best practice methods for regulatory interventions and public policy matters and actively lobby the various stakeholders on the proposed opinion
- To support the team in monitoring and advising the business on anticipated changes in legislation affecting the energy industries in the future and how these will affect the business
- To engage and participate actively in industry bodies to ensure a unified approach to common industry concerns for the benefit of BURN.
Skills and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience working with governments on behalf of organizations or policy initiatives.
- Significant experience working in international development or related industries, ideally in work that touches on the private sector or social enterprises.
- Demonstrated experience in managing large, multi-country teams with varied professional development needs.
- Energy and flexibility – show a passion for this work and thrive in fast-changing management and government environments.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple country offices and departments.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Top-performing academic background.
