International Institute of Tropical Agriculture Internal Auditor Job in Nairobi, Kenya

International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit an Internal Auditor on behalf of International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), to determine whether the organizational units in the region are performing their activities including planning, accounting and controlling activities in compliance with the Institutes standards, policies and procedures.

IITA (www.iita.org) with its headquarters in Ibadan, Nigeria, works with partners throughout Africa and beyond to reduce producer and consumer risks, enhance crop quality and productivity, and generate wealth from agriculture.

Key Responsibilities

• Represent the Internal Audit Unit within the Regional Hubs.      


• Assists the Unit Head in the preparation of the Report to the Audit Committee.        


• Assist in development of the Unit’s annual risk based Audit work-plan.        


• Assist the Unit Head in managing the unit’s activities.


• Assist in the monitoring of adherence to the Annual work-plan.        


• Assist in monitoring the unit’s annual budget (per E&SA Hubs) under the direction of the Unit Head.     


• Develop risk based audit work programs in MK Insight for review by Senior IA / Head IA.


• Compile standard working papers within the MK Insight audit software for review by Senior Internal Auditor.         


• Carry out review of internal controls and process East and Southern African Hub.      


• Carry out substantive test of transactions and examination of records.       


• Carry out operational and financial audits for the EAH, SAH and respective Stations and also Project Audits.    


• Propose recommendations for improving operations and controls. 


• Appraise the adequacy of the corrective actions taken to improve deficient conditions by following up on past audit recommendations.


• Draft Internal Audit Reports for review by SIA/ Head IA.        


• Provide advisory services on a consulting basis to Regional Hubs on key specific risk areas.  


• Carry out investigations as may be required.       


• Liaise with external auditors or other relevant monitoring teams across regional hubs.      

Perform any other duty assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

• Degree in Accounting, Finance or any other relevant field.


• Full accounting qualifications:- CPA(K) or ACCA, CIA or CISA certification is highly essential


• At least 5 years of experience in Auditing of which 2 years in a senior position


• Good personal organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail;


• Good communication and interpersonal skills;


• Highly effective multi-tasking skills, with ability to coordinate, prioritize and organize workload and meet deadlines.

Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus. It is open to Kenyan nationals only. The position is on a 3-year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Job level and salary: This position is job level 3A and the successful candidate will be awarded a competitive salary and benefits package.
