International Justice Mission is a global organization that protects people in poverty from violence. IJM partners with local authorities in 33 offices in 23 countries to combat slavery, police abuse of power, violence against women and children, and other forms of abuse against people who are poor. IJM works to rescue and restore victims, hold perpetrators accountable, and help strengthen public justice systems.
Started in 2001, IJM’s office in Kenya works to combat police abuse of power against people who are poor, as well as sexual violence against children.
Inspired by God’s call to love all people and to seek justice for people under oppression, IJM works with local authorities to protect people in poverty from violence, without regard to religious background and beliefs or any other factor and seeks to work alongside all people of goodwill.
The Senior Manager, Finance (SM-FINANCE) leads the finance operations of the office. S/he is charged with the responsibility of ensuring that finances are managed efficiently and within the policies of the organization as well as ensuring that the office is complying with internal and statutory finance protocol and grant agreement. Senior Manager, finance ensures that the office is maintaining the highest standard of finance stewardship and getting value for money and \internal controls are adhered to at all times.
Responsibilities:
· Organize annual audit and ensure that the office receives an annual clean audit and IJM maintains its annual status of low-risk auditee
· Ensure the field office complies with IJM’s financial policies provisions, accounting requirements, Kenyan government regulations, grant agreement and other restrictions
· Work with the Country Director (CD) to ensure timely preparation of annual operating budget by engaging all the relevant stakeholders and ensuring the budget is representative of the workplans and office direction
· Efficient weekly funds disbursement and finance reporting to ensure seamless operations support
· Analyze and present monthly financial reports in an accurate and timely manner and ensure that the office is maintaining a healthy score card and meets all internal standards
· Lead a strong team that embodies IJM’s spiritual rythms and core values and efficiently and effectively delivers on their mandate.
Education and Experience:
- MBA in Finance/Accounting
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent
- CPA (K) and in good standing with ICPAK
- Ten years’ (10) experience in senior leadership leading finance teams, accounting and financial management
- Experience working for a non-governmental organization, experience managing USAID government grants
- Fluent in written and spoken English and Swahili, including accounting/business terminology
Critical Qualities & Competencies:
- Thorough understanding of GAAP, such as debits and credits, cash versus accrual accounting and financial statement preparation
Excellent knowledge and experience in QuickBooks, or Sage, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Highest levels of integrity and honesty
Ability to manage, lead, foster teamwork and motivate staff members
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information
Gifted networker, able to build, establish and maintain positive relationships with others both internally and externally to achieve the organization’s goals
Meticulous attention to detail, ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
Ability to communicate effectively both in written and spoken communication
Strong initiative with creative problem-solving skills
Effective organizer, planner and implementer
