Investment Manager PE, Access to Energy Africa at Triple Jump

Our investor base includes institutional investors, development banks, governments, NGOs, and retail banks, all of whom seek to combine both financial returns with social/environmental impact.


 


About Job


As an Investment Manager you are responsible for the full investment cycle of equity and debt-based investments into companies active in the access to energy eco-system in Sub-Saharan Africa, mainly for the Energy Entrepreneurs Growth Fund (“EEGF”). The position requires frequent travel to countries across Africa to present the mandate, for due diligence and for monitoring the investees. You will be based in Nairobi, Kenya and be part of the senior team in the regional office of Triple Jump. For deals and corporate project matters, you will instruct and manage project teams.


EEGF is a US$120m fund launched end 2019 to provide catalytic financing for early and growth-stage companies operating in the access to energy ecosystem in Sub-Saharan Africa.


Job requirements


This position requires a solid experience and track record of direct investments in Africa. Background in the direct investment space and managerial experience within operational companies of a combined minimum 8 years is required. Moreover, you have experience analyzing business plans and financial statements, developing deal structures and monitoring investments, ideally with exit experience.


You have demonstrable communication skills and are able to disseminate knowledge and mediate between different views. Your negotiation skills are excellent and you are capable of representing the fund we manage. You feel comfortable working in a team spread across the globe, while independently developing new and managing existing markets.


Specific desired competencies



  • Must-have: Solid experience and track record of direct investments in Sub-Saharan Africa with some investments in early-stage / early growth companies as a prerequisite (VC or growth);

  • Desired investment experience with e-commerce, tech-enabled (e.g. digital) service and product companies or energy enterprises; ideally access to energy business models in SHS, C&I or mini-grid and related industries;

  • Ideally demonstrated corporate finance rigor and deal structuring experience;

  • Ideally monitoring lead (board or board observer) experience;

  • Management experience in operational businesses considered a plus;

  • Strong project management skills a plus;

  • Ability to understand and handle complex topics rapidly;

  • Next to verbal communication, proficiency in written business English is required;

  • Knowledge of French in particular, but also Portuguese or local languages is considered a plus;

  • Advanced Excel modelling skills;

  • Existing working permit considered a plus;
