Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer, Early Warning Branch, the incumbent will perform the following:
1. Assist in the preparation and execution of regular surveys to identify data/information needs, challenges and opportunities covering environmental assessment landscape of UNEP and its partners;
2. Undertake concept development and physical design and implementation of appropriate data/information systems incorporating spatial, non-spatial and media databases and web-based functions as identified in user surveys to support the execution and delivery of assessment processes of UNEP and its partners;
3. Create and manage the active contents and the associated user-interfaces and navigation schemes of UNEP data/information systems through continuously exploring with UNEP Divisions and other UNEP partners;
4. Liaise with DEWA Regional Coordinators and other partners, including national and sub-regional research institutions to establish and maintain the relevant mechanisms for bottom-up acquisition of time-series environmental data/information;
5. Contribute to negotiations with peer UN bodies to facilitate operational integration of their appropriate specialized data/information services into the portfolio of UNEP services and maintenance of cordial institutional and technical relationships with them;
6. Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
