Job Summary: The purpose of this job is to support the University’s overall creative needs, development and implementation of themes and campaigns that reinforce the trajectory of the ANU brand and strategic plan. 
 

The Graphic Designer will work on a variety of products and activities such as advertising, magazines, posters, exhibitions and displays, corporate communications and corporate identity, i.e. giving the University a visual brand. 

This position demands creative flair, up-to-date knowledge of industry software and a professional approach to time, costs and deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities 

 
The specific duties and responsibilities of the Graphic Designer will be as follows:-

• Create designs, graphics, images, concepts, and sample layouts based on knowledge of layout principles and esthetic design concepts for online or print media.


• Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, and select style and size of type


• Photograph images for use in commercial or editorial work


• Take photos at University events in conjunction with the media team.


• Create and manage and update appropriate filing systems for all artworks and images.


• Research new software or design concepts


• Mark up, paste, and assemble final layouts to prepare layouts for printer


• Ensure all communication upholds the university values and supports the ANU brand


• Custodian of the University logo, corporate identity and branding guidelines and interpretation of the same in the branding process.


• Oversee social media management and advertising


• Advise and benchmark the university on print and photography trends, requirements and practice


• Monitor and manage the printer provided for Design work and proofs


• Advice on National and County photography laws and by-laws


• Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Vice-Chancellor or any other authorized officer.

Technical competencies

• Must be highly proficient in Adobe design apps – CS6 and above( Illustrator, In design, Photoshop, After effects, Dreamweaver)


• Must be highly proficient in Adobe photo editing apps –  CS6 and above (Photoshop and light room)


• Must be highly proficient in working with a DSLR on both natural light and artificial light photography (preferably Nikon)


• Must have knowledge on working with form stack


• Must have good photo editing skills for commercial images


• Must be knowledgeable on social media monitoring and management tools, advertising and trends


• Must have Knowledge on corporate brand identity


• Proficiency in UI and UX design is an added advantage

Minimum Requirements: The applicants must have a diploma in Graphic Design, a minimum of 4 years cumulative experience, with at least 2 years in graphic design in a high volumes environment and 2 years in photography, flexible with quick turnaround times, attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
