Kids in Kenya Fund is a in the trenches get your hands dirty... do the real work, not piles of paper work type of effort. Projects vary greatly in scope: sponsorship of students, building of schools, mobile medical units, development of medical clinics/hospitals, village entrepreneurs, safe sustainable water, large scale community projects such as community owned eco-tourism camps, community development centers, artist-in-residency programs, youth development, wildlife/people conservation conflicts, tribal/clan dispute resolution, peace campaigns among other projects.
We know the people we serve well. We live with those we serve. You become family with those you serve. Our projects move slow to ensure acceptance, understanding and the ability to stick. Almost all projects leverage another to help build a stronger community. We often work as the folks on the ground in partnerships with many other organizations- yea that is where we have to do the paperwork.... We are serious about our reports, it is just that we communicate everyday rather than once in a while so it is really not a burden-more of a journal. Of course we have to do grant reporting and writing.
We are looking for humble, self-disciplined, confidant individuals that are able to know a lot about a lot of things but than forget it all and able to learn something entirely new. We are not interested in you if your first thought is -Wow this will look great on my resume. More of a thought of -Wow this is for me, I am ready for something new, I'm about quality of life, I enjoy serving others. We do not care about what school you went to, how many letters of the alphabet follow your last name, how old you are, what your last career was etc. I mean we do but you get the idea. Contact us lets talk and see if you fit.
The internship will include work in the USA and in Kenya. This is an unpaid internship and in the USA the candidate will be expected to have internet, transportation, and a good attitude.
