Applicants must have a Master’s Degree in a related field with 5 years experience in Distance and or E-Learning work and understand the emerging trends in the ICT world. Those with a PhD degree have a definite advantage.
They should have served as HOD or Director in an institution of higher learning for at least 2 years. In addition they should have advanced computer software skills and digital media and e-learning content development tools.
Proven ability to effectively manage projects in a collaborative, team-based environment and knowledge of university programs and distance learning approaches to instruction will be a distinct advantage.Overall Job Purpose:
Reporting to the DVCAA, the Director provides strategic vision, leadership and administrative oversight for distance and e-learning and gives guidance and direction in the areas of implementation, supervision and evaluation of the online learning activities and system.
The position holder works closely with Information Technologies department and Academic teams to support the cross-functional and cross departmental delivery of online teaching and learning.Main Responsibilities:
Oversees the development, maintenance and implementation of all on-line learning related policies and procedures ensuring compliance.Works closely with instructional Deans, Program Directors and faculty to facilitate development of course material and offering of courses through the online Learning Management System (LMS).Works with IT Department to refine Learning Management System(s) technological infrastructure and to maintain a competitive multimedia online learning program and to equip and enrich IT support systems to support users of the e-learning systems.Oversee all programs offered at each centre currently at AIU Karen campus, Eldoret, Nairobi Town campus, KIST and others that may be established in future.Responsible for budgeting and ensuring efficient and effective utilization of resources required for carrying out e-learning tasks in coordination with IT.Responsible for efficient and effective expansion of distance and e-learning territory of AIU.Prepares reports on e-learning as may be requested by the DVCAA from time to time – whether for Vice Chancellor/Senate/Governing Council, Accrediting Bodies, Donors etc.Serves as Chair for the Distance and E-Learning Academic Board.Works closely with Information Technology to promote and secure online learning services to campus constituents as well as perpetuate the technical success of distance and e-learning program.Provides direction to, trains, supervise and evaluates, assigned staff.Take teaching load as assigned by the DVCAA.Conducts research and assessment to identify effective instructional technology solutions to support the university’s strategic plans.Participates in strategic planning for distance and e-learning program.Do any other duties as may be requested by the DVCAAEducation Qualifications and Experience:A Master’s degree holder in a related field (PhD degree holders have a definite advantage).Five years experience in Distance and / or E-learning work and emerging trends in the ICT world.Has served as an HOD or Director in an institution of higher learning for at least 2 years.A demonstrable ability to integrate faith, life and learning.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Must be a committed evangelical Christian.Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and ability to build productive relationships and exercise independent judgment.Proven ability to effectively manage projects in a collaborative, team-based environment.Ability to organize, motivate and work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.Ability to formulate, interpret, adapt and apply policies and regulations.Advanced computer software skills in digital media and e-learning content development tools.Excellent oral and written communication, editing and documentation skills.
