Kenya: Executive Director


Organization:Hamomi Children’s Centre, www.Hamomi.org


Primary Purpose


This position is responsible for connecting all Hamomi governing bodies, staff, service recipients, and supporters to ensure proper external and internal communication, policy compliance, and transparency. These responsibilities allow the entire Hamomi team to meet metrics, develop programs, and fundraise.


Supervision


This position reports directly to the Hamomi Trust Board of Trustees.


Essential Duties


  1. Implement Hamomi Children’s Centre policy in Nairobi, Kenya and ensure policy is followed.

  2. Ensure compliance with and cultivate relationships with US arm of the organization which includes umbrella organization Lift Up Africa, Hamomi Trust Board of Trustees and community of donors.

  3. Ensure annual plan and budget goals are met in order to operate. Includes grassroots fundraising, grant-writing, developing partnerships, and developing sustainable businesses with the support of the Board.

  4. Develop strategic and annual plans to steer Hamomi’s vision and future.

Qualifications


Education:


· Bachelor’s Degree required.


· Master’s Degree or equivalent experience in international development and/or nonprofit sector.


Experience:


Direct field experience in the developing world, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa. Experience in the Non-Governmental sector preferred.


Knowledge/Skills:


  • Strong computer skills, (Hamomi uses Word, Powerpoint, Excel, WordPress, and Photoshop).

  • Excellent autodidactic skills – knowledge of how to self-teach and find skills you are not trained in.

  • Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including within cross-cultural settings.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand, process, and document information.

  • Strong public speaking skills.

Abilities:


The Hamomi Children’s Centre Executive Director must have the ability to:


  • communicate effectively orally, in writing, and visually;

  • maintain high level of confidentiality and integrity of personnel records;

  • interpret and apply good HR practice and principles with good judgment;

  • work as a member of a team in a multi-cultural environment;

  • manage large and diverse workload under pressure with competing priorities;

  • maintain high performance standard with attention to detail;

  • follow instructions from multiple interests with a positive and receptive attitude;

  • conduct oneself in a professional and courteous manner to represent the best interests of Hamomi;

  • contribute to and push forward the long term vision of Hamomi Children’s Centre.

Working Conditions


Physical:This position requires sitting, standing, walking, handling objects (manual dexterity), reaching above shoulder level, using fine finger movements and lifting/carrying light loads.


Environmental:Hamomi Children’s Centre conditions are in the Kangemi slum within a dusty environment and temporary structures. Pupils are orphaned and vulnerable children living in Kangemi and there may be issues of poor hygiene and/or sanitation. Normal office working conditions when in Seattle.

Examples of skills and behaviors include taking advantage of all opportunities to cultivate potential donors; evaluating situations to identify the best use of resources; and making responsible investments of resources that increase organization effectiveness.
