EU Education Programme Officer Job in Nairobi Kenya

The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Kenya, Somalia Operations Unit announces the vacant position of an Education Programme Officer based in Nairobi to support the Somalia Rural Development & Social Issues Section.

Duties

Contribute to the effective implementation of EU policies and programmes in Somalia through preparation, execution and monitoring of interventions supporting the Somali Education Sector at country level and across Somalia.

Main responsibilities

Ensure management, co-ordination, monitoring and supervision of EU funded interventions in Somalia related to Education;Translate sectoral policies into project ideas and activities according to Project Cycle Management –PCM procedures, contributing to the objectives of the EU Country Strategy Paper, stressing cross-sectoral linkages;Contribute to the implementation of initiatives towards the promotion of Education;Co-ordinate with other donors and agencies in the framework of the CISS - Coordination of International Support to Somalia- Sectoral Committee pertaining to Education;Undertake any other Education related tasks assigned to her/him.University degree in Education or similar;Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in education related projects with 5 years in developing countries, preferably in sub-Saharan Africa;Expertise in the areas of education and training;Excellent understanding of the current situation in regard to Education sector of Somalia is mandatory;Experience in the formulation of Education sector policies and programmes, and in capacity building of local institutions;Proven experience in PCM project administration and management;Experience in development co-operation with institutions, particularly government agencies, professional associations, international agencies, and international NGOs;Knowledge of EC/EDF procedures as well as participatory approaches and project cycle management regarding EC standards;Ability to work within a heterogeneous socio-political and ethnic environment and in areas of civil strife;Fluent to high standards in English both reading and writing skills;Computer literacy.The position is open to nationals and other residents of Kenya with a valid work permit.

The contract is initially for a probationary period of 6 months with the possibility of renewal on annual basis.

As an indication, the minimum salary is 314,431 Ksh/ month with possibility of higher salary depending on relevant experience.
