IF YOUR ARE SATISFIED WITH YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS, SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG
Have you ever wondered why big names such as Chris Kirubi, Esther Passaris, former President Moi, Charles Njonjo and other successful people we have in this country are still investing and seeking to climb the ladder even higher when they already have achieved so much?
These big personalities do not take comfort in what they have. They barely have time to relax despite the fact that they have everything human beings dream of in this life at their disposal.
They work hard to maintain their lifestyles and to achieve even more. In short, the moment you put your feet up and feel that you’ve really made it, you are headed for a big fall.
This applies in all areas of life. If you started out as a Cashier for example, and out of your hard work, sacrifice and dedication you made it to the level of a Chief Accountant it must feel good and it sure should. Achieving ones dreams is the best feeling anyone can have but then it should not stop there. Be proud of your achievements and the far you’ve come but do not take comfort in that, it’s easier to slip back than to climb up.
For you to be a success in life, there should be a nagging feeling that there is much, much more you can do with your life. All successful people have enormous self-belief. They know that they have something special to contribute and they are determined to make their mark. This does not mean that they are arrogant or over achievers. On the contrary, they are self critical and push themselves hard because they know that they can achieve more. What is the talent that you have not developed? What do you know you are capable of? Then go for it!
It is hard to make progress if you have no clear goals for your life. Most of us muddle along from one thing to the next. Successful people define their objectives and measure progress against them. You should set yourself targets in the areas that are important to you e.g. career, wealth, health, relationships and social life. If you do not achieve some of the goals then reset them. You can be flexible and adjust how you move forward but you must keep moving. Do you have written objectives that you track regularly? Here are vital steps to achieving more in your life;
Work on high value activities: To succeed you need to focus on the important and strategic goals – not just the urgent day-to-day stuff that consumes so much of your time. How much of what you are doing is advancing you towards your key objectives? Try to eliminate the low value activities that absorb you and release time for the really important things. You cannot reconcile cash and bank statements for four years and expect to advance in your career simply because your job description requires so, find some extra time and focus on the bigger picture.
Secondly, mix enough with top achievers. Let’s face it – your friends and family are really nice people but they are not challenging you to achieve more. Spend more time with high flyers and positive thinkers who understand ambition and achievement. Share some of your thoughts, dreams and challenges with them. They will encourage you and give you the direct advice you need. How much time are you spending with really successful people?
Build your self-belief, Set yourself clear goals and push yourself outside your comfort zone. Work towards the future and the future will be brighter. You can move forward and achieve more results. You can make plans and expect to reach them. So what do you say? You only have one life to live therefore let it be a life you love!
