Purpose & Accountabilities
To lead a technical team of 3 to 4 people that will review, improve/develop existing/new production processes with a view to delivering compliant products with minimal waste.
Analyse production processes and techniques as well as product failure analysis with a view to improving manufacturing processes.
Provide specialist technical support, through the technical team, to production
Undertake production trials, define specifications and produce process instructions.
Manage and develop a team of 3 to 5 people, ensuring that they are inspired and developed to maximise their contribution and potential.

To assess the feasibility and economic viability of new product manufacture
Produce new product costing and ensuring that Cost, Quality, H&S and Sustainability standards are met
Qualifications, Experience &Skills
A graduate engineer or scientist, have materials and process improvement experience and ideally from a manufacturing environment
An analytical and enquiring mind, with the specific ability to look at manufacturing process design and failure analysis;
A passion for enacting change and improving processes;
Strong communication skills; essential when interfacing with the internal production and sales teams, but more important customers and research centres.
Familiar with product manufacture or materials processing, ideally, but not necessarily with metals;
Knowledge of the metals and their industrial applications; if not it is essential to have the scientific knowledge and enquiring mind to be able to pick this up quickly
Adept at analysing production failures and production yields with a view to putting improved processes in place
Demonstrates knowledge of modern manufacturing technology, techniques and methodologies and experience in implementing new production methods and technologies;
Working knowledge of continuous improvement tools (i.e. Lean Manufacturing / 6 sigma)
Good understanding of the H, S and E legislative framework to at least IOSHH standard
A good understanding of human factors and behavioural safety with experience of implementing behavioural safety programmes;
Demonstrate success in reducing accidents and leadership of H&S initiatives.

Highly numerate and analytical with a focus on using metrics to driving process improvement
Experienced and effective at budgeting and delivering against an agreed budget
Demonstrable ability to gain the commitment of others, motivates through the use of involvement
Goal focused, employing the use of personal and team objectives, creates strong interpersonal relationships, leads by example, resilient.
Demonstrates ability to build strong relationships with clients
