Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is an international non-governmental organization supporting relief and development work in over 99 countries around the world. CRS has been operating in Kenya since 1965.CRS programs assist persons on the basis of need, regardless of creed, ethnicity or nationality and works through local church and non-church partners to implement its programs. CRS seeks candidates for an anticipated USAID-funded integrated health program in the coastal region of Kenya. CRS will focus on WASH and nutrition education and service delivery. *The position is based in the Kenyan Coast and is contingent upon donor funding*.
The sanitation and hygiene specialist will coordinate WASH interventions for the project and ensure the integration of WASH messaging into health education at the facility and community level. S/he will oversee development of an “Essential WASH Actions” (EWA) training including hand washing with soap at critical times, treatment and safe storage of water, safe disposal of feces and food hygiene. S/he will coordinate with GOK and other stakeholders regarding the integration of WASH into health programming and will develop behavior change communication materials and be responsible for meeting donor, international and Kenya WASH standards through implementation. The person will expected to work closely with, attend and effectively participate in WESCORD and other WASH related coordination meetings within the County.
Qualifications:
· University degree in public health or related field required.
· Minimum 5 years working in a technical management role on WASH or health projects
· Demonstrated experience with similarly complex projects in Kenya, involving coordination with multiple programs, and partner institutions.
· Proven experience integrating WASH into health programming.
· Experience working on USAID contracts strongly preferred.
· Demonstrated experience in community mobilization, organization and mediation among local actors.
· Excellent English language oral and written communication skills required.
· High personal integrity and ability to empathize and cope with people from diverse backgrounds
· Knowledge and understanding of the culture or experience working in the Coast would be an added advantage.
