HelpAge International’s vision is one of a world where older people fulfil their potential to lead active, dignified, healthy and secure lives. We are an international network, bringing together more than 114 affiliates and 200 partners working with older people in over 50 countries. The EWCA Regional Development Centre works with a range of partners across Africa to deliver programming in a number of key areas: HIV/AIDS & health; income security & livelihoods; emergency response & DRR and rights of older people.
In Kenya, HelpAge has been working closely with various ministries of the Govt of Kenya and other partners to develop relevant policy framework and programming for older persons focused on the issues of social protection, health and HIV and violence and abuse. The organisation also implements emergency response programmes in times of need. HelpAge is part of the Hunger Safety Net Programme, funded by DFID and coordinated by the Government of Kenya, that targets cash transfer to vulnerable individuals in 4 counties- Turkana, Marsabit, Wajir and Mandera (http://www.hsnp.or.ke/index.php/as/governance-structure).
HelpAge International in Kenya works closely with an affiliate member, HelpAge Kenya (an independent national organisation with a national board). HelpAge Kenya was founded in 1982 dedicated to ensuring dignified life for older populations in Kenya and has been championing the cause of older persons. HelpAge International and HelpAge Kenya have a long history of collaboration. Both the organisations are discussing ways to enhance integration of programming activities in Kenya.
The Country Director will have overall responsibility for strategic management, program development, leadership on policy and advocacy, fundraising, finance, security and operations management of the Kenya Country Programme.
S/he will have a Masters Degree in social sciences or related field, significant experience in country program management in a national or international INGO, experience in strategic planning, programme development, management of complex multi-stakeholder interventions and networking with public and private institutions. Ability to negotiate and influence wide range of people and organizations at different levels as well as ability to undertake in-country travel is essential to this role.
