Build Africa Kenya (BAK) is a medium sized Non Governmental Organization that works exclusively in rural areas of Kenya. We work in remote areas, combining education and livelihoods projects which provide children and their families with the opportunities to live more fulfilled lives. We currently work through partnerships with government at the decentralized levels and with other stakeholders in Gilgil, Kwale, Machakos and Mwala regions in implementing integrated programs in Education and livelihoods.
Build Africa Kenya is seeking to recruit suitable candidates for the position of Clerk of****Works
Job Purpose: The Clerk of Works who will be based in Nairobi with numerous visits to the field. He/she will be responsible for carrying out different activities related to construction. He/she will perform quality assurance on all construction works to ensure they are of high standard and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
§ Responsible for ensuring proper implementation of funded activities in accordance with approved work plans, budgets and regulations of Build Africa Kenya and her partners and donors.
§ To prepare, interpret and share with Project Coordinator sketches for building designs and drawings for all construction works at BAK project schools.
§ Responsible for providing Bills of quantities and other estimate costs for all constructions, for purposes of budgeting.
§ Keep the Project Coordinator and the Senior Management Team posted on the progress of all construction work through regular updates.
§ Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports detailing the progress and achievement of project outputs and objectives, outlining challenges and recommendations for future planning.
§ Coordinate all construction activities at BAK project schools and provide a communication link between contractors, BAK Office, Ministry of Public Works and all other service providers.
§ Closely monitor all construction works to ensure they are done to the best achievable standards and specifications.
§ Promptly bring to the attention of the Project Coordinator and/or her assignee any defects, incomplete works or deviations from agreed schedule in a prompt and expeditious manner.
§ Ensure that construction activities are carried out within the set time lines, addressing any short fall and ensuring that it is done in the most efficient manner.
§ Communicate to Build Africa Kenya Matters of urgency involving safety of property and persons at all BAK project schools.
§ As a member of the Construction Committee, attend and Participate in construction related meetings at BAK Country office.
Professional Qualifications
§ BSc. Civil & Structural Engineering.
§ Computer literacy: able to use the Ms Office, internet and AUTO CAD + any other structural analysis soft ware
Experience
§ Minimum of two years and experience of construction supervision in a humanitarian / emergency set up is an added advantage.
§ Professional experience working with international organizations/ NGO and experience of humanitarian principles, SPHERE and UNHCR standards and field security protocols and procedures.
