JOB TITLE: DATABASE ADMIN (DBA) TEAM LEAD


NATURE OF JOB: FULL TIME

SALARY RANGE: KSHS 150,000.00- 280,000.00- Commensurate with experience

SUMMARY


The client is an ICT multinational company looking to employ an experienced DBA team Lead to ensure the stable operation of the database Infrastructure platforms, maintaining, supporting and optimizing key non-functional areas of the database infrastructure such as: reliability, security , performance , observability and disaster recovery.


The DBA team Lead will schedule and direct activities to continuously optimize and enhance the database Infrastructure platforms based on technical and operational best practices and execute projects/initiatives under the supervision of the Infrastructure Engineering Manager.


The DBA team Lead will guide personal resources within the team and actively participate in research and improvement of new and current Technologies.


Responsibilities



  • Reporting to the Infrastructure Engineering Manager on the DBA team activity

  • Defining, documenting and maintaining DBA team processes.

  • Responsible for upgrades, performance monitoring, installations, managing replications, diagnosing system problems, disaster recovery testing and maintaining user accessibility.

  • Resolving complex issues involving: database performance, database capacity, resiliency, stability, replication, and other key aspects of distributed database technology.

  • Providing Oracle 19c, MS-SQL , MySQL database administration, database security and production support, primarily in a Linux environment

  • Managing physical database design and implementation, database security implementation and monitoring.

  • Provides hands-on technical expertise, provides senior level technical guidance to staff, project leaders and other teams as necessary.

  • Researching and recommending solutions that best meet business needs and enterprise operational requirements

  • Work closely with multiple application development team(s) to implement and support data-oriented development efforts

  • The Team Lead will act as the deputy of the team Manager

  • The team Lead will be responsible for the day to day operations of the team , including documentation of guidelines and procedures, assignment of work schedule and tasks, and alignment of team shift rotations

  • The team Lead will be responsible to maintain and report on the team’s KPIs as defined by the team Manager

  • The team Lead will also participate and execute projects/initiatives under the supervision of the team Manager

  • The team lead will participate in the team’s performance appraisals under the supervision of the team Manager

  • The Team lead does not have direct reports.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in ICT or related technology field

  • 3-5 years multiple lifecycle management including high availability and disaster recovery management.

  • Proven experience leading a technical team consisting of multiple database technologies such as Oracle, MySQL & MSSQL

  • At least 10 years of experience in RDBMS technologies such as Oracle, Mysql, SQL Server and Postgres. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of principles, concepts, and theories in own discipline, and has extensive knowledge of principles and concepts in other functions

  • Proven experience with Oracle performance analysis, troubleshooting and tuning

  • Exceptional analytic/problem-solving/troubleshooting expertise and attention to detail

  • Proficient with software development tools, such as python, ELK analytical tools

  • Experience in administering on-prem/cloud based multiuser environment with expertise in planning, designing, building, and implementing complex database systems

  • Experience with driving end-to-end availability, performance monitoring, and capacity planning for Microsoft SQL, Oracle, Postgres or MySQL, using native and 3rd party tools

  • Experience with optimizing database performance through exhaustive pro-active testing and ongoing real-time monitoring

  • Must have prior experience successfully leading or managing a team of technical IT resources with demonstrated progression of increased scope and complexity.

  • The ability to successfully manage and deliver multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.

  • Customer focused, business driven, and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong networks.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment to encourage collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Written and verbal communication skills to address all levels within the organization

  • Ability to read and analyze business processes, procedures, training material
