Description
The Conservation Development Centre provides technical support to governments, development agencies, conservation NGOs and community-based organisations in eastern Africa working to achieve natural resource and biodiversity conservation in harmony with sustainable human livelihoods. Our office is located in Nairobi, and provides an enabling and agreeable work environment close to the conservation and development issues and stakeholders that we work with. We are now looking to recruit a committed, pragmatic and energetic biology/natural science postgraduate, preferably with two or more years’ field experience in developing countries.
This is a rare opportunity to gain hands-on experience and training in the design and delivery of practical conservation and sustainable development solutions in developing countries. Under the guidance of CDC’s Director, you will be responsible for providing technical support for a variety of CDC’s activities, in line with your skills, experience and interests. Although the position is mainly office-based, there will be opportunities for occasional field travel.
You will enjoy working in a small, quality-oriented team, and will demonstrate strong writing and presentation skills, initiative, a sense of humour and the ability to make the best of any situation. You will be equally at home working independently on developing and delivering your own activities, or working together with CDC’s Director and others. An initial contract of two years will be offered, but this job is best suited for someone wishing to make a longer term commitment to developing their career from an East African base. The salary package will be according to qualifications and experience, and will include international medical insurance and annual home leave air travel.
Please send your CV and a covering letter (both as pdf or Word attachments) to: jobs@cdc.info by 21st August 2011. Your covering letter will be the determining factor in selecting candidates for interview, and should explain why you want this job, what in particular you have to offer, and any relevant special interests you may have.
