PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
Provide strategic leadership and management to World Concern’s relief and holistic development work in Kenya. Plan sectoral initiatives into a coherent country strategy consistent with organizational priorities. Advocate on behalf of organization’s development goals, building institutional relationships and promoting cooperative program activities.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development:
Work with Program Managers to improve the quality and effectiveness of existing programs; evaluate opportunities and make recommendations to the Leadership Team for new programs; ensure effective monitoring and evaluation systems are in place to align with WC objectives of shared learning, improved programming, beneficiary sustainability and spiritual impact; and identify strategic partnerships and negotiate terms for final approval by the Africa Area Director.
Fund Raising:
Write clear, concise proposals with corresponding budgets to increase program funding base ensuring programs are fully funded; network with and maintain good working relationships with UN, government agencies, appropriate church bodies, NGO’s and other actors in Kenya to ensure collaboration and acceptance of WC programs; and provide leadership to Program Managers in initiating development activities that are locally/communally funded and which do not rely exclusively on foreign support.
Management:
Oversee budgeting, monitoring and controlling program expenses for all Kenya programs; ensure quality reporting to donors and the US head office and program compliance with donor requirements; participate actively in the Africa Leadership Team; hire and monitor performance of WC staff in Kenya programs; monitor political and security situations in Kenya and ensure appropriate security measures are in place and being followed; and participate in the Duty Officer rotation.
People Development:
Ensures that conflict is resolved in a biblical way with the goal of restoring relationships; provides guidance on individual staff development; promotes an atmosphere of shared learning; mentors staff towards God’s purposes through discovering their gifts and talents and creating opportunities for their growth; commits to pray for WC project beneficiaries and staff, and foster spiritual growth among both as appropriate.
MEASURABILITY
A Country Director is successful if :
Programs are growing (horizontally and vertically) and fully funded; people are working to their capacity using their gifts and talents; people trust your judgment; programs are meeting their objectives; programs are within approved budget; reports, budgets and proposals are turned in on time; a positive and constructive attitude is maintained; and appropriate people are kept in the communication loop.

Working Conditions
Requires travel to different field offices in Kenya. Some additional travel to other regions may be required. Nairobi based. Living conditions in the field may at times be harsh. May require working extended hours and on weekends/holidays to meet deadlines. Normal office hours are Monday-Friday 8:00a.m.-4:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday.
