icipe is an intergovernmental organisation funded by government aid agencies, UN organisations and private foundations to carry out research and training in environmentally sound and sustainable management of arthropods for improved health and agricultural productivity in the tropics.
icipe has approximately 350 staff to support its research and capacity building programmes, located at various sites in Kenya and Ethiopia.
The African Fruit Fly Programme (AFFP) (Plant Health Division) urgently requires the services of a competent Technical Assistant for a short term contract (one year with a possibility of an extension).
The person required should be available immediately.
The position is based at the Duduville campus, Nairobi.
Requirements
A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education at level D followed by a certificate in biology from a reputable institution.Good computer skills (excellent knowledge of Excel and MSWord) is essential.Ability to communicate in English, both written and verbal.Good interpersonal skills.Must have a valid driving licenceAt least one years' experience in handling Maruca vitrata, and fruit flies and their parasitoids.Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be required, among other things, to discharge the following duties and responsibilities:
Carrying out the olive fruit survey.Collection and processing of fruit flies and their natural enemies.Mass rearing of Maruca vitrata.Assist scientists and scholars in their experiments related to Maruca vitrata, and fruit flies and their natural enemies.Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.Applications will be accepted up to 18 December 2011.
