The University continues to undergo a

purposeful, decisive, and aggressive transformational change. 


This has enabled the University to

ensure that the physical capacities, quality and availability of staff and

relevance of academic programs are in sync with the ever increasing demand for

access to higher education.





The University of Nairobi is now seeking to appoint a
 Principal for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences who

will sustain and improve on the success of the University. 


The Principal, under the direction of

the Vice-Chancellor, shall be the Academic and Administrative Head of the

College.


For appointment to the position of

Principal, a person shall:

  • Be a Professor and a holder of an earned

    Doctorate degree or equivalent qualification from a University recognized

    in Kenya;

  • Have thorough knowledge of the structural,

    legislative and regulatory framework for administering University

    Education in Kenya;

  • Have at least five years hands-on experience

    at a senior level in a University or equivalent institution with

    demonstrable leadership, and management capacity including knowledge of

    public financial management and strategic people management;

  • Be an accomplished scholar with proven track

    record in formulating and managing academic programs and supervising and

    mentoring Masters and PhD students;

  • Have a proven track record of research and

    publications in peer reviewed journals, monographs and books;

  • Have demonstrable experience in networking,

    fundraising and resource mobilization;

  • Meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the

    Constitution on Leadership and Integrity; and

  • Have a demonstrable experience in

    transformative and strategic leadership.


The following core competencies and

skills will be required for the position of the Principal:

  • Ability to portray and uphold a positive

    national image and work in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment

    with sensitivity to and respect for diversity

  • Being a visionary and results oriented thinker

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and

    communication skills and

  • Capacity to work under pressure to meet strict

    deadlines and

  • Firm, fair and transparent management style.


Duties and Responsibilities:
 


As per the Charter and Statutes of

the University of Nairobi, the Principal:

  • Shall be the Academic and Administrative Head

    of the College and as such shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for

    maintaining and promoting efficient management of the College.

  • Shall be responsible for strategic planning,

    performance contracting and quality management system in the College.

  • Shall be Chairman of appointments of:

  1. Staff on Grades I – IV

  2. Technical and Administrative Staff on Grade A

    – F

  3. Academic Staff up to Graduate Assistant and

    Tutorial Fellow

  • May assign or delegate any of his/her duties

    to a committee or a member of the university staff and may withdraw any

    such assignment or delegation at any time.

  • Shall have any other duties as may be assigned

    by the Vice-Chancellor.


As per the Universities Act 2012,

University of Nairobi Charter and Statutes, the Principal shall hold office for

a duration of five (5) years with the possibility of one time renewal for a

further term of five years subject to a positive appraisal by the Council.


The University of Nairobi is seeking

to appoint a
 Principal for the College of Biological and Physical Sciences who

will sustain and improve on the success of the University. 


The Principal, under the direction of

the Vice-Chancellor, shall be the Academic and Administrative Head of the

College.
 


For appointment to the position of

Principal, a person shall:

  • Be a Professor and a holder of an earned

    Doctorate degree or equivalent qualification from a University recognized

  • Be a Professor of the University of Nairobi

    serving on permanent and pensionable terms and a holder of an earned

    Doctorate degree or equivalent qualification from a University recognized

    in Kenya;

  • Have thorough knowledge in the structural,

    legislative and regulatory framework for administering University

    Education in Kenya;

  • Have at least five years hands-on experience

    at a senior level in a University or equivalent institution with

    demonstrable leadership and management capacity including knowledge of

    public financial management and strategic people management;

the University of Nairobi, the duties and responsibilities of the Deputy

Vice-Chancellor (Research, Production and Extension) shall be:

  • Development and formulation of appropriate

    policies to promote research infrastructure;

  • Research Planning, coordination,

    administration, logistical support for research at all levels;

  • Coordinating and sourcing of research funds;

  • Protection of Intellectual Assets,

    commercialization, dissemination and publication of research output;

  • Development of strategic alliances with

    Government, industry, local and international research institutes;

  • Management of Research Libraries and Archives;

  • Branding of Research, setting standards,

    quality assurance/control and capacity building;

  • Coordination of relevant seminars,

    consultancies, workshops, conferences and symposia;

  • Benchmarking Research and coordination of

    exchange of scholars;

  • Negotiation and management of Research

    contracts and consultancies;

  • Internationalization of the University;

  • Shall be the Chairman of the Research and

    Development Advisory Board of the University;

  • Perform any other functions pertaining to

    Research, Production and Extension; and

  • Carry out such other duties and

    responsibilities as may be delegated by the Vice Chancellor or by the

    University Council.


Appointment: As per the Universities Act 2012, University of

and Extension) shall hold office for a duration of five (5) years with the

possibility of one time renewal for a further term of five years subject to a

The University of Nairobi is seeking

to appoint a
 Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students Affairs) who,

under the direction of the Vice-Chancellor, shall be the Head of the Students

Affairs Division of the University.
 


For appointment to the position of

the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students Affairs), a person shall:

  • Be a Professor of the University of Nairobi

    serving on permanent and pensionable terms and a holder of an earned

    Doctorate degree or equivalent qualification from a University recognized

    in Kenya;

  • Have thorough knowledge in the structural,

    legislative and regulatory framework for administering University

    Education in Kenya;

  • Have at least five years hands-on experience

Duties and Responsibilities:
 


As per the Charter and Statutes of

the University of Nairobi, the duties and responsibilities of the Deputy

Vice-Chancellor (Students Affairs) shall be:

  1. To plan, organize and manage the provision of

    academic and social counseling, career, work study programmes and sports,

    (both within and outside the University), accommodation, catering,

    community service, recreation, health, security and other student affairs;

  2. To develop and implement programmes (e.g.

    leadership training) that support students educational experiences and

    wholesome life;

  3. To advise and guide student organizations and

    mentor students in their development of leadership, moral reasoning,

    social intelligence and other skills required in their lives;

  4. To develop mechanisms to anticipate and

    promptly, efficiently respond to student needs; and

  5. To carry out such other duties and

    responsibilities as may be delegated by the Vice Chancellor or by the

    University Council.


As per the Universities Act 2012,

University of Nairobi Charter and Statutes the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students

Affairs) shall hold office for a duration of five (5) years with the possibility

of one time renewal for a further term of five years subject to a positive

appraisal by the Council.


1. Each application shall be

accompanied by a detailed Curriculum Vitae, Copies of Relevant Academic and

Professional Certificates, National Identity Card or Passport, Testimonials,

and other relevant supporting documents.
 


2. Applicants must also submit the

a. Clearance from Kenya Revenue

Authority
b. Clearance from Higher Education Loans Board
c. Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission
d. Certificate of Good Conduct from the Criminal Investigation Department
 


3. Applicants should submit ten (10)

hard copies of their applications which should clearly be marked “Application

for the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students Affairs).
