: Electricity Safety Manager at International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)


Established in 1863, the ICRC operates worldwide, helping people affected by conflict and armed violence and promoting the laws that protect victims of war. An independent and neutral organization, its mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We are based in Geneva, Switzerland, and employ some 14,500 people in more than 80 countries. The ICRC is funded mainly by voluntary donations from governments and from national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.


OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:


The Electric Energy Center of Expertise (EE CoE) envisions ensuring a safe standard of electrical installations in ICRC premises. The electricity safety manager will be responsible for all ICRC premises in their regional area of assignment and have safe, reliable, and efficient running electric power supply systems.


TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Plans and conducts assessments on electrical installations and preventive maintenance on electrical installations within ICRC premises;

  • Organizes interventions in electrical installations together with the maintenance team, or intervenes directly;

  • Supports other ICRC departments with electrical expertise;

  • Regular site visits to all ICRC premises in Kenya and other African/middle east countries for compliance checks and preventive maintenance;

  • Draws up technical documents (drawings, bills of quantities, contracts etc.) for electrical engineering projects using approved formats;

  • Monitors project implementation, supervises contractors and/or assigned human resources, prepares progress reports, provides technical expertise and coaching, reports accordingly;

  • At all stages, ensures compliance with project documents, ICRC standards, EE CoE technical framework and wiring regulations;

  • Anticipates in due time, plans and coordinates routine & ad-hoc interventions in accordance with EE CoE operation & maintenance guidelines;

  • Reports regularly to both Line and Functional Managers ensures regular coordination with other internal stakeholders;

  • Manages database with regards to assessment and site completion reports, preventive maintenance reports and inventory;

  • Ensures quality stock of electrical material for standard interventions is always available, coordinates stock content with EE CoE and line manager;

  • Conducts on-site training for maintenance technicians when required.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES



  • Minimum of Technical University Diploma or equivalent (in electrical engineering, related discipline) or equivalent professional experience;

  • Minimum 4–5 years professional experience (post-training) in electrical installation or related discipline;

  • Experience in managing technical support staff in an electrical work site;

  • Good knowledge of electrical installations in buildings, particularly protective measures;

  • Excellent skills in installing electrical systems in buildings, use of electrician tools, measuring instruments, electric power tools;

  • Good understanding of Electrical wiring regulations, regional code of practice and other related guidelines;

  • Capacity to read, understand and interpret electrical drawing and schematic diagrams;

  • Certificate of good conduct.
