The Kenya National Commission for UNESCO is a State Corporation established under the KNATCOM Act of 2013 (Revised 2014), to promote Kenya’s national interests in UNESCO and UNESCO’s international interests in Kenya, regionally and globally in the areas of education, sciences, culture, and communication and information.

To enable it to fulfil its mandate, the Commission wishes to recruit dynamic, result-oriented, and self-driven persons to fill the following vacant positions specifically under the terms and conditions advertised:

Responsibilities

• The information and communication technology officers are responsible for the following functions:


• Oversee development and implementation of the Commission’s ICT policy;


• Champion innovation and effectively manage the implementation of new initiatives;


• Manage the Commission’s data centre;


• Oversee installation, configuration and maintenance of systems hardware, software and network


• components, system performance and monitoring tools;


• Coordinate repair and maintenance of software and hardware;


• Facilitate Backups and Disaster recovery services to ensure Business systems availability and


• continuity;


• Manage the Commission’s website, mail system and intranet to ensure they are secure and


• functioning properly;


• Coordinate provision and maintenance of information systems, networks and infrastructure for


• enhanced operational efficiency;


• Liaise with other departments to continuously identify new ICT requirements while identifying staff


• development needs;


• Monitor the safety and effectiveness of computer systems and their related security components; and


• Provide technical support across the Commission through the ICT Helpdesk.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Developing documentation of computer programs according to instructions and specifications; 


• Installing and configuring computer systems and solutions; 


• Maintaining application systems; 


• Providing end user support and training users on effective and efficient use of ICT facilities; 


• Maintaining up to date equipment register; 


• Installing, configuring and monitoring Local Area Network components; 


• Administering and managing users in the Active Directory, e-mail server and User applications; 


• Maintaining an up-to-date ICT equipment register and issuance register; 


• Updating and maintaining the Commission’s website; 


• Ensuring business continuity by performing regular data and application backups; and 


• Any other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of four (4) years relevant work experience;


• Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields: Information Technology, Computer Science,  Business IT, Software Engineering, ICT Project Management, Computer Engineering or other relevant and equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution; Minimum KCSE C+ (plus) or its equivalent;


• Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results;


• Membership of an ICT professional body (Computer Society of Kenya) or any other equivalent body;


• Supervisory Course lasting not less than two (2) weeks from a recognized institution;


• Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results; and


• Fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
