Meet Former Waitress Building Transport Empire

When you decide to do something, age doesn’t matter – it shouldn’t. You’re never too old or too young to follow your dreams and start building something of your own – all you need is determination.

Some of the most successful people in the world started their companies at ages that were considered unconventional. Bill Gates is a good example of that. He founded Microsoft at just 19 and now his company one of the most successful ones in the world, making lives better and easier every day for everyone.

Lucy Wangui is one of those people of breaking the barriers of what a successful person should be. She is not letting her age limit her. At 33 she is making an impact in the transportation sector.

She is the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hilluck Enterprises Limited. She ventured into the transportation business in 2013 after having worked in different sectors including serving as a waitress.

Her company acts as a link between clients and companies exporting flowers to the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Saudi Arabia.

Wanjiru takes pride in being an intermediary between farmers and the international market.

The country shipped approximately 142,000 tons of flowers with her company playing a major role in transportation.

The young CEO went to a primary school in Kerugoya before proceeding to Mutira Girls High School for her secondary education.

“I then pursued a short course on food and beverage at Fir Food and Beverage at Harpers Ngong Road. This officially introduced me to the service industry and really showed me the importance of serving people. I get alot for joy and fulfillment in serving people,” she stated in a past interview.

She later enrolled at the Kenya Institute of Management where she pursued a certificate in Human Resource Management.

“I also undertook a Higher Diploma in Management and Leadership. I really enjoyed this training because it equipped me with leadership knowledge and skills I currently apply,” Wanjiru noted.

Wanjiru plans to transform and empower society by vying for the Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in Mihang’o Ward in Nairobi in the upcoming August elections.

“My love for politics began when I was in college. Since time memorial I have been working with various groups in the community helping them access the women and youth fund, to raising capital for their businesses,” she remarked.

She added, “I love being there for members of the community. I am an aspirant who genuinely cares about the community.”

What you should take away from Lucy’s story;

Don’t let age or circumstances limit you. Take charge of your future. Put in the work and keep striving to be better. Rome was not built in a day!
