Duties and Responsibilities



  • This position aims to store, preserve, pre-pack, medicines and counsel patients on their proper use and possible adverse effects of drugs and medicine dispensed.

  • Provide counselling on prescribed medications where appropriate

  • Dispense prescribed pharmaceuticals and advise them on indications, contra-indications, adverse effects drug interactions and dosage.

  • Check prescriptions for dosage and prepare prescribed pharmaceutical products as necessary.

  • Take part in supply chain management to ensure that essential stock are available in the main pharmacy and internal outlets you may be responsible for.

  • Ensure proper receipt and storage of pharmaceuticals and maintain appropriate documentation for accountability.

  • Maintain stock registers and updated price lists

  • Continually update wards/clinical teams on available drugs from the pharmacy.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly pharmacy reports

  • Monitor storage conditions, expiry status and security of pharmaceuticals.

  • Monitor patient adherence to long term treatment especially antiretroviral (ARVS).

  • Ensure compliance with occupational.


The requirement to this grade:



  •  KCSE Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili and Chemistry/Physical Science and Biology/Biological Science; C in any one of the following: – Physics/Physical Sciences or Mathematics.

  • Must have Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.

  • Must have a Registration certificate issued by the Board;

  • Have a valid practicing licence

  • Must have a minimum (1) year experience in the field

  • Excellent proficiency in use of Computer, reporting and record keeping
