Research Assistants – 4 Positions at The International Centre for Reproductive Health – Kenya


The International Centre for Reproductive Health – Kenya (ICRHK) is a local non-profit organization that works in the area of sexual and reproductive health research and intervention programs. Our projects are in the thematic areas of HIV/AIDS, Family planning, RHMNCH and sexual and gender-based violence. Our staff include experts in public health, clinical services, research, project management and data.


Job Summary:


The Research Assistant (RA) will work with the Research officer to coordinate and conduct study activities including recruitment, consenting, data collection and management, for the short survey and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) for the qualitative study as outlined in the study protocol and standard operating procedures.


Reporting to: Research Officer


Roles and responsibilities



  • Trained and certified on Good Clinical Practices

  • Take the lead role in recruitment of study participants, coordinate and work together with community health volunteers (CHVs) in the region, to ensure a smooth flow in the recruitment processes

  • Ensure that a written consent is obtained from all study participants before commencement of any interviews

  • Adhering to human subject protection policies, and ensuring confidentiality, in addition to observing ethical conduct at all times during the study as outlined in the protocol

  • Conducting the short survey and key informant interviews, while ensuring data accuracy and completeness

  • Cordially interacting with study participants, listening carefully without judgment to the responses, answers and comments

  • Providing daily feedback to the research officer on the progress of both the survey and the KIIs, and regularly communicating to bring to the attention of the research officer, any challenges encountered and issues that may compromise the conduct of the study

  • Ensuring that study data including hard copies of signed consent forms, is only accessible to authorised study personnel, and transporting of consent forms to the ICRHK central office is done in sealed envelopes

  • Ensures that all project financial expenditure are accurately accounted for, and timely financial report and liquidation are submitted to the Research Officer

  • Participate in weekly study staff meetings and contribute efficiently in the preparation of study reports

  • Proper handling of audio recorders and tablets/smart phones and maintaining tools and materials in good condition throughout the conduct of the study

  • Help maintain repository of all project materials and information from the qualitative research activities

  • Participate in the documentation of project experiences and lessons learnt during the study

  • Perform such tasks as assigned by the Research Officer and PI.


Specific Requirements


Qualifications



  • Degree in a relevant healthcare discipline including social sciences or equivalent

  • Experience in quantitative data collection and conduct of qualitative data (key informant interviews)


Competencies



  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to work independently and effectively

  • Ability to interact with study participants

  • Familiarity with electronic data collection tools is an added advantage

  • Ability to manage multiple activities and achieve set deadlines

  • Strong attention to detail and writing skills that should include the ability to develop comprehensive notes during conduct of qualitative data collection
