Social & Behavior Change (Data Analyst) -P2-P3/NOB-NOC at UNICEF

Key activities & duties


Under the technical guidance of the  SBC Specialist Emergencies, the consultant will: 



  • Build high-quality evidence system for emergency response by collating, analysing and synthesizing SBC data into periodic reports and dashboards, catering to the needs of different internal and external stakeholders;

  • Provide support to build capacities at national and subnational levels and on all elements related to SBC/RCCE data analysis

  • Support the monitoring and evaluation components of SBC interventions in the country.


In close co-ordination with the UNICEF SBC unit, the data analyst will undertake the following tasks:



  • Submission of an inception report with a data capacity assessment and workplan.

  • Track and document the use of SBC/RCCE evidence emerging from the UNICEF supported interventions

  • Act as liaison person in RCCE coordination mechanisms to encourage collaboration and exchange of information between programmatic interventions and social science and data specialists; provide weekly update on the findings collected and analyzed to support adjustments of interventions in RCCE and other pillars.

  • Overview quality assurance of every data stream collected (including U-Report/Chatbot; hotline reports; social media monitoring; CRAs findings; anthropology related findings).

  • Triangulate data from various data sources and main findings compiled on a fortnightly basis.

  • Final report with an overview of key concerns and challenges with findings and recommendations.


Key Expected Results


The position will be responsible to embed and strengthen SBC data capacity in UNICEF and the RCCE pillar with the aim to strengthen community-centred approaches in the overall public health response. The position will contribute to evidence-based decision-making by UNICEF and partners in emergency response through building and strengthening systems for SBC data collection, analysis, triangulation, visualisation and utilisation including building capacity of UNICEF and partners.


To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have


Education-



  • A Master’s degree in social sciences, information management, public health with experience in quantitative data analytics and presentation or any other related field.

  • A first level university degree in combination with an additional two (2) relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university


Work Experience- 



  • Minimum 2 to 5 years responsible work experience in social sciences research and data analysis, including experience in large scale public health response, working with NGOs/UN in/with developing countries, with practical experience in developing methodologies and tools to inform action/programmes/ policies.

  • Must have excellent skills in excel and data analytics

  • Demonstrated experience in developing dashboards and presenting findings from different sources (methods, tools etc.)

  • Experience analysing data from social monitoring systems, monitoring and evaluation work, or other survey work.

  • Experience performing data extraction, cleaning, analysis and presentation for medium to large datasets.

  • Excellent writing skills planning and coordination skills, with proven ability to work independently.

  • Skills in building the capacity of a range of stakeholders including UN, NGOs and local organizations to collect, analyze and utilize data for action.


Additional qualifications: 



  • An inquisitive and creative mindset, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams and countries.

  • Ability to communicate complex ideas in data science to relevant stakeholders.

  • A passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data.

  • Proven record of solving challenging problems in emergency and humanitarian settings.

  • A Team Player mentality and desire to collaborate with multicultural and diverse colleagues, as well as work independently.

  • Excellent project management skills.

  • Experience using Power Bi or other data analytics and interactive visualization software.

  • Experience using HTML, CMS management, and specifically Wagtail CMS, is a plus.

  • Experience working with the UN and/or one of its entities is an asset but not necessary.


Language Requirement:-



  • Fluency in verbal and written English and/or French (depending on the country office’s official language). Knowledge of another UN language or a local language is an asset.
