PVP and Production Assistant � Dadaab Office

FilmAid International FilmAid International is a non-governmental organization that uses film to promote health, strengthen communities and enrich the lives of the world’s vulnerable and uprooted. FilmAid is currently implementing programs in Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps in Kenya. Closing date: 28 Mar 2011
Location: Kenya - Dadaab refugee camp
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Work with the Dadaab Program Manager and other project staff to ensure that objectives of the Dadaab Program are met.
2. Coordinate the Dadaab Youth Participatory Video Project (PVP) which seeks to build the capacity of refugee and host community youth to generate video content on issues affecting their community, through providing training on the following;

i. Participatory Video Approaches and Using Video for change
ii. Cinema Studies
iii. Cinematography and Editing
iv. Lighting and Sound
v. Producing for TV and Video
vi. Directing film techniques
vii. Storytelling and Creative writing for video

3. Design a curriculum for PVP trainings and workshops which will include both theoretical and practical sessions.
4. Ensure that FilmAid productions and PVP final products are up to the satisfactory standards and are approved by staff and the advisory committee.
5. Work closely with the Program Manager in providing regular updates of production and dissemination of PVP products and other video products through quantitative and qualitative reports.
6. Work closely with the Program Manager and the Program Assistant in creating and updating content for the FilmAid Website and blog for production and PVP activities.
7. Work closely with the Program Manager and the Program Assistant in the design of new programs for the Participatory Video Project (PVP).
8. Assist in Cinematography, Coordination and Editing of other Film productions being implemented by FilmAid in Dadaab.
9. Designing all Information Education and Communication materials used to support and complement FilmAid methodologies
10. Monitor and collect feedback on production and dissemination activities.
11. Oversee overall production activities including budgeting, recruitment of technical crew, actors, training of all community participants in the production and ensure proper production (pre production, production and post production) protocols are adhered to.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

1. Be of Kenyan nationality
2. Bachelors/Diploma in Video Production and Editing and / or other relevant discipline.
3. Proficiency in Editing using Final Cut Pro and other editing programs, Script development and Camera operations
4. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/Corel Draw and other design/publishing/graphics programs
5. Proficiency in internet use will be an added advantage
6. The ideal candidate has a strong background in international affairs, education and media and an interest in using the arts in humanitarian aid, development and human rights
7. Ready to work for long hours, in a hardship area
8. Team player, excellent interpersonal and communication skills
9. Ready to work with minimal supervision with ability to work both independently and as part of a team
10. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
11. Detail oriented and good organizational skills
12. Commitment to humanitarian principles and action
