Lutheran World Federation Regional Emergency Team Leader Job in Nairobi Kenya

Lutheran World Federation Kenya / Djibouti Program is seeking to recruit a suitable candidate for the following position, to be based in Nairobi Office.

Regional Emergency Team Leader

He /She will responsible for the implementation of the LWF emergency response strategy in Eastern and Central Africa.

He/she shall be based in Nairobi and reports to the LWF Humanitarian Emergency Team (HET) Leader in Geneva who delegates this responsibility to the LWF Representative in Kenya - Djibouti.

He/She will be expected to travel regularly within the region and are subject to the assign

The Emergency Team Leader shall provide overall leadership to the LWF Regional Emergency Response Hub in Nairobi which, when fully established, will have up to five members of staffs.

He / She shall promote, implement and uphold the vision, mission, core values and objectives of the LWF, as well as the emergency strategies and other approved emergency documents for the region.

He/ She promotes all aspects of the LWF Accountability Framework, including incorporation of HAP benchmarks and other accountability elements in all aspects of the emergency response, and adherence to the LWF Staff Code of Conduct regarding Abuse of Power and Sexual Exploitation.

The Emergency Team Leader provides support for planning, supervision, implementation, monitoring, documentation and administration of disaster preparedness activities in the region in accordance with the mandate of the Regional Emergency Response Hub and supports all LWF country programs in the region to establish emergency contingency plans and disaster-risk reduction

The Emergency Team Leader works cooperatively with the Action by Churches Together (ACT) alliance in the region, including participation in joint planning and implementation, and providing support when appropriate.

Competences & Personal attributes:

Knowledge of institutional mandates, policies and guidelines pertaining to humanitarian assistance;Analytical capacity and in particular the ability to analyze and articulate the rapid response and surge dimension of issues which require a coordinated LWF, ACT and UN response;Ability to work in an organized and responsive manner under extreme pressure on occasion in a highly stressful environment following the deterioration of an existing crisis or the emergence of a new crisis;Takes responsibility for incorporating gender and people with disability perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work;Ability to plan own work and to manage conflicting priorities;Ability to work under pressure on occasion in a highly stressful environment;University degree in political science, international humanitarian assistance, social science, public administration, international studies or technical studies or related field;A minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis/ emergency relief management, rehabilitation and development, or other related area.Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; Knowledge of French and/or Swahili is an advantage.LWF/DWS is an equal opportunity employer, irrespective of gender, race or religious affiliation.
