Clinical Officer Ophthalmology Job in Kenya - International Rescue Committee

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Kenya serves vulnerable populations in the Turkana region and refugees in the Kakuma, Dadaab camps and in the Eastleigh, Nairobi.

The IRC implements programs in the areas of comprehensive primary health care, nutrition, protection, peace building, sanitation and hygiene and HIV/AIDS and prevention and response to gender based violence issues.

Applications are invited for the positions of:

Clinical Officer Ophthalmology, will have the overall responsibility for the daily clinical assessment and prescription of treatment for all patients attending the eye health unit

Responsibilities:

Provide consultations at the eye clinic 6 days a weekDiagnose, manage and refer cataract cases appropriatelyIncrease community awareness to participation in eye care especially cataract identification and referralPerform cataract surgeries and refer complicated cases appropriatelyTake part in planning and participating in eye campsEnsure that all assessments and treatment provided are properly documented on patients filesMaintain an accurate and updated records keeping system in the health unit keeping in mind that any significant changes seen with regards to cases seen in health unit should be reported to the Doctor in charge and other relevant authoritiesAdmit patients to the wards when necessary and ensure that M.O. in-charge is promptly informed.Maintain equipments in good condition and submit regular inventory report of the sameCompile and submit quarterly inventory return/ requisition of all drugs and suppliesHigher Diploma in clinical medicine- OphthalmologyAt least 3 years relevant working experience. Experience working with a non-profit humanitarian organization.Must be flexible, culturally sensitive and ready to work in difficult environmental conditionsFluency in English, including writing clear and concise reports.
