Veterinarian (Based in Somalia)
The Economic Security Unit carries out various livelihood projects in Somalia which include food distributions, agriculture inputs provision, cash for work, livestock interventions and other income generating activities in order to help the vulnerable families and communities.
In the frame of its activities, the Somali Delegation in Nairobi is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Somali national or origin to fill the Veterinary Field Officer position(s), based in Garowe and Burco (various locations).Analyses the Livestock, socio, economical, political and cultural situation of the covered area and its humanitarian consequences for the population;Carries out assessment according to the EcoSec Framework in the livestock sector and drafts proposals and reports, as per the standard formats and guidelines provided by the livestock specialist;Regularly monitors the livestock interventions based on the monitoring framework of the livestock activities in Somalia and produces reports against defined indicators;Supervises the implementation of various livestock and other EcoSec activities in the field;Assesses the main hazards faced by the pastoralists and agro pastoralists and proposes mitigation strategies.University degree in Veterinary science;Min 5 years’ experience in the veterinary field;Skilled in the following competencies: Networking & Communication; Adapting & Learning; Responsibility & Autonomy; Communication (ability to express views and ideas); Analysis & Synthesis; Security Management;Very good knowledg e of the socio-political environment of the Somalia, pastoralist system and livelihoods of the pastoralists;Readiness to spend 50-75% of the time in the field;Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, any other interactive software);Ability to read and produce technical reports;Excellent command of English and Somali languages.Experience in humanitarian work;Flexibility and willingness to be based in various regions and travel inside Somalia, and ability to work in hardship areas;Good report writing and administrative skills, ability to supervise and train staff;Interested persons (of Somali nationality or origin), with the required background and experience are invited to submit their application to the Head of Human Resources on the above address, before 21st December 2012.
