Background
Empowering Young workers in the port and maritime sector of Mombasa is a project that has its overall aim of improving young workers’ working conditions within the port and maritime sector in Mombasa, Kenya.
The project funded by DANIDA is developed as a partnership between FIC, a Danish NGO and three local labour organizations, namely; Kenya Dockworkers Union, Kenya Seafarers Union and Kenya Shipping Clearing and Warehousing Union. The Dock Workers Union is the main partner, however, the key decisions regarding the project are taken at the Steering Committee where each partner and other stakeholders are represented in equal capacity. Key employers within the environment are also incorporated.
The project is nearly half-way through and runs between January 2012 and December 2014 and currently looking for a qualified Project Coordinator to be based within the Dock Workers Union offices, Mombasa.
This position is open to Kenya nationals and other qualified persons with the permission to live and work in Kenya.
Qualifications and requirement
Specific tasks:
Will be responsible for the daily management of the project. Will work under supervision of the FIC Coordinator in Kenya and The General Secretary of the Dockworkers union. Will work in close cooperation with the representatives from the project steering committee.The responsibilities of the project coordinator includes:
Overall responsibility in planning, coordinating, implementing and following up on the activities done in cooperation with the partner organisations in line with the project document and the decisions made by the Steering Committee. Preparing Terms Of References (TOR) for consultants, collecting quotations and entering into agreements based on best offer. The coordination is made in close collaboration with the representatives from each of the partner organisations and in agreement with FIC Coordinator in Kenya. Responsible for the project monitoring system, which will be developed and implemented in close cooperation with the Dock workers’ Union and FIC. Finance and Administration: Project office set-up, cash handling, financial reporting of locally incurred costs (e.g. a monthly cash report including documentation of expenses). Any other tasks assigned and agreed on by FIC or project Steering Committee and in line with the Project Document Organizing Steering committee by preparing necessary documents and reports and coordinating correspondences before and after the meetingsEducation
Experience
