The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a regional not-for-profit, non-governmental organization that carries out high quality and policy-relevant research on population, health and education issues in sub-Saharan Africa. The Center hosts the Secretariat of the Consortium for Advanced Research and Training in Africa (CARTA), a multi-institution collaboration to strengthen doctoral training in public and population health in Africa. Jointly-led by APHRC and the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, CARTA is building a vibrant African academy able to lead world-class multidisciplinary research that impacts positively on public and population health. APHRC seeks to recruit a Program Manager for the CARTA Consortium. The position will be based at APHRC’s Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, and will report to the Director of Research Capacity Strengthening Division at APHRC.
The CARTA Program
CARTA is an innovative initiative that brings together nine universities and four research institutes from across sub-Saharan Africa and selected northern partners to foster the development of vibrant and viable research hubs at African universities through the provision of a collaborative doctoral training program in public and population health; faculty and staff training programs; and the strengthening of institutional infrastructure to support rigorous research at partner African institutions. The Position
The Program Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations and activities of the CARTA program. S/he will provide coordinating functions for the program; manage the Executive Secretariat and the various partnerships and governance arrangements of the Consortium. The Program Manager will administratively report to the Director of Research Capacity Strengthening Division at APHRC and programmatically to the two co-Directors of the Consortium. S/he will lead the team of CARTA staff at the Secretariat as well as backstop other CARTA staff hosted at partner institutions.
