Managing Director (Dhuluo speakers only)


CACOP is looking for an experienced Managing Director to oversee existing development programmes, set the strategic direction of the organisation and put in place the structures to enable the organisation to successfully apply for programme grants before the end of 2016. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on experience in programme management and demonstrated leadership in previous roles.


CACOP (CBO) is a key partner of WVP Kenya, a youth-focused NGO operating in Nyanza and Western Provinces of Kenya. Founded in 2006, WVP and CACOP have a diverse range of programmes, from school scholarships to community led partnerships supporting vulnerable children, and are supported by a range of donors. Job title: Managing Director


Terms: 2-year fixed term contract.


Monthly allowance:KES 35k-45k per month, dependent on experience.


Location: Bondo Town, Bondo District, Nyanza Province, Kenya.


Qualifications


Essential:


Þ Completed high-school education, including grades of C or higher in English and Mathematics, and further professional or academic study in a relevant subject


Þ A minimum of 7 years relevant experience working on grass-roots development programmes


Þ Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English


Þ Oral and written fluency in Dholuo language


Þ At least 3 years’ experience in a management role within a reputable organisation


Þ Demonstrable experience of managing funding proposals


Þ A proven track record of engaging with community and local government stakeholders


Þ A proven ability to produce high-quality reports or publications for a range of audiences


Þ Proven/good understanding of information technology (use of computers and emails)


Desirable:


Þ Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant subject, such as grass-roots development or management theory


Þ An understanding of the regulatory environment for CBOs and NGOs in Kenya


Þ Experience of developing organisational strategy


Responsibilities


Financial management


Þ Taking responsibility for the proper implementation of financial controls and oversight of budgeting and accounting procedures.


Þ Allocate resources effectively


Operational management:


Þ Point of contact for staff, including resource management (staff time and programme co-ordination) and short-term programme planning. Assist in arranging staff meetings.


Þ Responsibility for maintaining staff records, including review of staff contracts, annual review of performance against job description, and goals for the upcoming year


Stakeholder relations:


Þ Building stronger relationships with the local communities and schools that we rely upon for our work, as well as liaising with, collaborating with and influencing other local stakeholders such as NGOs and local government.


Programme support:


Þ Responsibility to work with the programme director to liaise with and respond to WVP Trustees on a regular basis (via emails and calls), including comprehensive monthly narrative and financial reports


Þ To be flexible and responsive in supporting the day to day needs of WVP and the children the organisation supports


Programme and strategy development:


Þ Identifying the core strengths of CACOP in programme implementation and developing a strategy for funding future CACOP-led programmes through local, national and international funding sources


Donor relations:


Þ Strengthening our relationships with existing CACOP donors through overseeing timely and high quality reporting, providing strong remote communication via phone and email, and co-ordinating successful donor visits
