Wildlife Works Media & Communications Officer, Accounts Assistant and Garment Cutter Jobs in Voi Kenya




Wildlife Works the world’s leading REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation), project development and management company with an effective approach to applying innovative market based solutions to the conservation of biodiversity.



REDD+ was originated by the United Nations (UN) to help stop the destruction of the world’s forests. 



Over a 15 year history Wildlife Works established a successful model that uses the emerging marketplace for REDD+ Carbon Offsets to protect threatened forests, wildlife and communities.




The company helps local landowners in the developing world monetize their forest and biodiversity assets whether they are governments, communities, ownership groups, or private individuals. 



 



We seek to recruit competent individuals to fill the following positions, located in Voi, Kenya.

1. Media & Communications Officer
 




Reporting to the Conservation Office Manager, the Media & Communications Officer will provide communications advice and guidance and implement communications plans and strategies for Wildlife Works Project operations. 



He or she will in addition be responsible for the following:


  • Assist the Conservation Office Manager in gathering content for the community newsletter and format the data for Company website news blog.

  • Ensure that once in every two weeks report triumphs, milestones and challenges in various departments for a bio-monthly internal newsletter and blog entries.

  • Document any newsworthy events both internally and externally e.g. (catching poachers reports and saving baby elephants etc.)

  • Ensure that all existing and incoming media are well organised in one drive that holds media documents which is stored in Kenya Office and the other drive that is used between Kenya Office and US Office.

  • Ensure once in every two weeks you report on triumphs/milestones and challenges on community projects, schools and women groups.

  • Ensure that you work within the organisation’s policy and practice guidelines as set out in the Wildlife Works policy manual – Media and communications.

  • Develop, implement and evaluate Wildlife Work’s media strategy in consultation with Conservation Office Manager from time to time.

  • Implement communications, marketing, advertising and publishing strategies which promote the key policies and programs of Wildlife Works REDD+ Project.

  • Consult with departmental heads and external agencies to plan creative strategies for special events, launches, displays and other promotions, which highlight the achievements of Wildlife Works REDD+ Project.

  • Keep update and ensure photographs of all newly engaged employees are uploaded on the Company’s website.


Required Qualifications and Skills:


  • At least Diploma in Communications/Journalism, Public Relations or other relevant training from a recognized university or college. Bachelor’s degree desirable.

  • At least 2-3 years work experience in journalism/communications/media or related.

  • Have good command in communication and report writing skills.

  • Have good photography skills.

  • Computer literacy skills.

  • Creative and a team player.

  • Be a broad-minded individual.

  • Has the desire and ability to live in a rural area of Kenya.


2. Accounts Assistant
 



Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Accounts Assistant will be responsible for providing support to finance department activities with specific responsibility of processing, recording, updating and reconciling fiscal information in compliance with established policies, providing instructions, recommendations and/or accounting support to other personnel and analyzing expenditures against budget. 



He or she will in addition be responsible for the following:


  • Shall prepare all relevant vouchers as required and ensure all supporting documents are provided

  • Raising invoices on sales and receipting cash from customers

  • Provide support to the Finance team as required and act as interface between Accountant and Finance Manager

  • Reconciliation of all bank statements on a monthly basis.

  • Handle, write cheques and do all banking as advised.

  • Process  invoices, expense forms and request for payments, inputting and processing payments and taking responsibility for funds transfer

  • Verify calculations working with the accounts system preferably quick books.

  • Maintain and manage petty cash transactions and ensure compliance with Company policies and procedures on all financial and accounting transactions

  • Prepare statutory returns promptly i.e. VAT, Withholding Taxes, PAYE, NSSF, NHIF & PAYE, HELB among others

  • Participate in and attend Finance meetings.

  • Any other duties that may be assigned to you by management.


Required Qualifications and Skills:


  • At least CPA Part II, Relevant Business Degree added advantage

  • Experience working with Quick Books required.

  • iTax experience required.

  • Computer literate with knowledge and familiarity with accounting software.

  • At least 2-3 years’ experience in accounting.

  • Be of High integrity with excellent relationship building skills.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.

  • Has the desire and ability to live in a rural area of Kenya.


3. Garment Cutter
 



Reporting to the EPZ Factory Manager, the cutter will be responsible in overseeing all cutting requirements for production within the EPZ Factory. 



He or she will in addition be responsible for the following:


  • He/she checks on the production orders and patterns to ensure they are worked on in good time.

  • Ensure that the cutting machine is cleaned frequently to avoid staining other garments.

  • Ensure that no fabric wastage is made during or after any daily cutting activity.

  • He/she ensures the fabric quality supplied for production is good.

  • Calculate fabric consumption within the Factory and keep proper documentation

  • Make sure that there is a consistent cutting and size mixing is not witnessed.

  • Ensures that the cutting machines are in order and report any damages for repair by the technician.

  • Count number of layers with layer paper appropriately.

  • Analyse approved sample and cutting marker to erase consumption shortage.

  • Check marker very well before cutting fabric for production.

  • Ensure comparison is done between marker piece and layer paper.

  • Carefully check fabric roll with colour detail sheet.

  • Ensure all cutting activities are done within the safety precautions to avoid any injuries to self and others.

  • Ensure safety and cleanliness of the cutting area at all times.

  • Ensure that the fabric production supply is steady as per work requirements.


Required Qualifications and Skills:


  • At least a National Government Trade Test or Diploma in Pattern Making

  • At least 2-3 years work experience in cutting Knit wear apparels.

  • Experience in EPZ cutting operations and data sheet management.

  • Be a good team player.

  • Should possess good interpersonal skills to provide superior leadership and decision making skills.

  • Has the desire and ability to live in a rural area of Kenya.
