The Principal Librarian will report to the Deputy Director-Technical Services. The officer will manage the day-to-day operations of the library services.

Duty Location: Head Office-Nairobi (1 post) and Garissa (1 post)
Terms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Financial and administrative management of the library services and facilities
- Carry out development and maintenance of inventory of library resources distributed to public libraries and national library in Kenya
- Identify and recommend areas of research, and draft concept papers and policies on library matters for approval
- Monitor and advise the organization on emerging trends on cataloguing, classification, indexing, abstracting, and creating user profiles
- Provide information literacy which involves training library user on how to search information from various sources in different formats
- Participate in the acquisition of books produced in and outside Kenya and such other materials and sources of knowledge necessary for a comprehensive national library
- Participate in campaigns for the eradication of illiteracy
- Implement budgets for library stock in terms of books, software, furniture and equipment
- Liaises with international and national organizations on professional matters relating to the mandate of knls
- Oversee collection of revenue through membership fees, book borrowing fees and library fines
- Resource mobilization in support of library programmes
- Initiate strategic partnerships with development partners in support of various activities in ICT and other capital development of the institution
- Initiates disciplinary issues/matters for the unit and undertake activities that promote discipline, employee relations, and engagement
- Promote acquisition of ISBN to local publishers/authors
- Oversee the security of Boards assets
- Develop a database for authors/publishers in their jurisdiction
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Library Studies/Information Science or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
- Master’s degree in Library Studies/Information Science from a recognized University will be an added advantage
- Three (3) years working in a busy Public/National Library Services
- Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks will be an added advantage
- Member Kenya Library Association
- Proficiency in ICT application
- Knowledge in acquisition of e-content will be an added advantage
