The Brand Kenya Board (BKB) is a state corporation established through Legal Notice number 38 of 2008 under the State Corporation Act (Cap. 446).

The rationale behind the establishment of the Board was the Government’s commitment to put in place an integrated coordinating mechanism for building and enhancing the Country’s image, national identity and rallying its citizens behind it.

The Board’s Mandate is to manage and enhance the country’s image by ensuring that a Kenya Brand is created, harnessed and sustained as a platform for communicating the Country’s competitive advantage both internally and externally.

The Board now seeks to strengthen its team by hiring valued talent to fill the following position:

Director Marketing
Ref: BKB/DM/01/01-2011

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director Marketing will be responsible for both the national and international marketing/branding functions of the Board and will work closely with the Strategic Communications team to deliver quality country branding programmes.

The Marketing Director will formulate and implement the Board’s marketing strategy; branding policies and procedures; and track and manage the country’s image and identity.

He/she will be responsible for identifying and managing the key pillars of country branding at both National and International levels which include but not limited to the sectors of tourism; culture; investment; Kenyan people; Kenyan goods and services; governance and public diplomacy.

He/she will also advice the Board on all matters regarding internal and external branding of Kenya.

Key responsibilities and duties:

Develop and implement a country brand identity and image which positions Kenya optimally in terms of investment, creditworthiness, tourism and international relations;Develop and implement an internal branding strategy for uniting Kenyans and provide them with positive information about the country in order to promote patriotism, national pride and cohesion;Develop and implement an integrated branding strategy for Government and private sector for international marketing of Kenya;Regularly interact and work closely with key country branding stakeholders to promote the best interests and convergence of country branding initiatives and objectives to ensure implementation of the country brand master plan;Provide leadership to both internal marketing and communication resources and external agencies engaged by the Board to achieve effective marketing and communication goals for the Board;Design, plan, and implement the Board’s marketing/branding plans and operations and administer approved annual marketing budget.Be responsible for all personnel within the department; oversee their career growth and development, training and motivation needs; andBe accountable for the general performance of the Marketing Department;A Masters degree in Marketing, Business Administration, International Relations, or equivalent with strong bias to marketing;A post graduate qualification in marketing/branding;At least ten (10) years experience in a dynamic marketing and/or communication function within the private or public sectors; and,A proven track record in managing marketing/branding programmes;Strong leadership/people management skills with ability to inspire others and build effective teams;Strong business/financial management skills;Decision making, analytical and problem solving skills; andExcellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.Ability to networkThe successful candidate will work on a three (3) year contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance of the roles and responsibilities.
