Improved Sustainable Livelihoods for Disadvantaged Women (ISL)
Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) is an international federation of member organizations working in development through volunteers to fight poverty and disadvantage.
VSO Jitolee is a member of the VSO federation based in Nairobi with an East African regional mandate to promote volunteerism and recruit skilled professionals from Kenya and Uganda to serve as volunteers in VSO programmes in 44 countries in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean.
In addition, VSO Jitolee contributes to Kenya’s national development through international volunteers who work with local partners across the country. VSO Jitolee is an independent INGO registered in Kenya and governed by a local board.
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to support the ISL project with in our Secure Livelihoods programme. This four year project has been running since 2008 and is expected to end in 2012. Employment will therefore be on a fixed contract of about 1 year.
The job
As the project administrator you will be expected to deliver:
Well planed, hosted, and managed review project visits, exchange visits and surety that individuals or teams involved have opportunity for mutual benefit.Well supported project partnership development processes, monitoring and evaluation and reviewing of project partnersRelevant contribution and support to project phase out plans.Relevant knowledge and linkages to business development services and micro finance actors for sustainability of project interventions.Relevant knowledge of players and evidence of networking and collaborative efforts in the ISL focus area.Accessible, up to date documentations on ISL including reviews, workshop reports, manuals, case studies, which are relevantly disseminated and stored.Increased level of satisfaction of partners volunteers and resulting from technical support to partners through monitoring visits, provision of information, guidance to access of updated information,Responsive and efficient administrative systems to support staff, partners and volunteers – including management of enquiries; communication of ISL/VSO Jitolee’s policies and procedures; logistical support for the project and effective project filing systemsAccurate tracking, coding and reporting of ISL budgets with the Finance Assistant.Proper management of ISL assets in accordance to the donor agreement.Demonstrable personal growth in knowledge of the subject in tandem with the development issues and increased ability to respond to project needsThe person
We expect the suitable candidate to be able to demonstrate that s/he has/is:
Bachelor’s degree preferably in the social sciences (Preferably in Business Management)At least 1 year relevant experience including implementation and project management and experience in providing administrative support in a busy office.Knowledge in Business Development and Micro Finance management and of simple financial procedures.Skills in training community groups in credit extension service an added advantage.Administrative and organisational ability, ideally, the candidate will have worked at community level, and be familiar with participatory methodology.Good written and oral communication with strong people skills with the ability to network, and influence key stakeholders. Aware of diversity and is specifically gender sensitiveA good team player with a high degree of personal commitment and integrity, enthusiasm and the ability to give and receive feedbackAn appreciation of the ethos of volunteerism. A clean driver’s licence and be accustomed to road travel. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications Applications
