Our client is a leading global health organization with programs targeting malaria, child survival, HIV and reproductive health. Working in partnership with the public and private sectors, the non profit organization provides life-saving products, clinical services and behavior change communications that empower the world’s most vulnerable populations to lead healthier lives.
The Manager – Communications will lead the communications division which is charged with the
responsibility of managing both internal and external communications. Reporting to the Associate
Director of Social Marketing, the Manager will work closely with all the health area divisions to
generate articles, stories, website; case studies, newsletters etc that will help tell the organization’s
story to internal and external audiences.
He / She will be required to conduct field visits on a regular basis to capture content through interviews and photography.
Responsibilities
1.Develop human interest stories per health area that reflect the impact of the organization’s
programs for external audiences – Donors and stakeholders.
2.Develop profiles for various program areas per quarter for external audiences backed by research
data and professional photographs/videos.
3.Maintain a database of professional photographs that can be used for external communications such
as case studies, newsletters and profiles.
4.Lead the process of developing the organization’s website and keep it updated.
5. Act as the media liaison for the organization and work with the health area teams to respond to
media requests accordingly and in a timely manner.
6.Plan and implement media events together with program teams as and when the need arises.
7.Provide leadership in the development of a biannual newsletter on print, email and website.
8.Review all newsletter materials from other departments and provide technical support.
9.Provide guidance for internal communications and build departmental capacity.
Requirements
•Masters Degree in Communications
•4 years experience in Journalism with demonstrable experience in writing and developing articles
that have been published for external audience
•Experience working in Public Relations environment preferred
•Experience working for a reputable media firm is added advantage
•Results focused with ability to take immediate action to solve problems
•Drive change and innovation with capacity to promote development of breakthrough solutions
•Experience working with diverse teams
•Strong customer service orientation
•Superior communication skills
•Computer literate
•Sound understanding of Donor and development perspective with the ability to understand current
Donor strategy and direction
