AU-IBAR has developed the second version of its Animal Resources Information System (ARIS 2); this information system provides a source for comprehensive African animal health and production information.it serves at collecting, collating and analyzing animal resources data and disseminate/share information on the continent.

2. Major duties and responsibilities:
Working under the Chief Animal Health Officer through the Knowledge Management team leader, the Information system manager will be responsible for coordinating activities related to the development, deployment and use of the second version of the Animal Resources Information System (ARIS 2). The detailed duties and responsibilities of the manager are:
* In collaboration with the head of units plan long, medium and short term activities aimed at identifying animal resources information needs of Member States, Regional Economic Communities and AU-IBAR and different tool required to manage and disseminate information;
* Prepare concept notes, projects and identify sources of funding for the running and sustenance of ARIS;
* In collaboration with all the AU-IBAR Units and Sections and using ARIS 2, collect, collate and analyse animal resources data from AU member states and disseminate appropriate information including on the situation of Transboundary (TADs), zoonotic, emerging and re-emerging diseases, , their risks and progress of control efforts in Africa, animal demographics, trade and marketing among others;
* Advice on planning, developing, maintaining and upgrading ARIS 2, as well as other information and communication tools such as portals, Web GIS, etc. which extract and disseminate information from the system;
* Collaborate with international and regional organisations for establishing data sharing methods between ARIS and information systems operated by these institution (Interoperability);
* Interact with AU member states, Regional and International organisations, research and academic institutions, etc. representing AU-IBAR in matters pertaining to animal resources information management sharing experience and collaborative works;
* Actively participate in animal health unit and knowledge management programme meetings and activities and contribute to formulation of projects, reports and plans.
3. Educational qualifications:
A postgraduate Degree (Msc) in veterinary medicine with sounds knowledge in veterinary epidemiology, data management.
4. Work experience:
* Seven years proven working experience in the livestock sector or rural development of which 3 years proven experience in livestock development projects in management position;
* Proven working experience on data and information management;
* Experience in dealing with portals, Web GIS.
5. Other relevant skills:
* Self-starter with the ability to strategically plan own work;
* Knowledge of other official African Union languages is an advantage;
* Good networker with the ability to maintain a positive and fruitful dialogue and relationship with the main institutions operating on the Continent;
* Excellent communication skills.
6. Language requirement:
Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages is a requirement. Knowledge of one or more of the other AU working languages would be an added advantage.
7. Age requirement:
Must be preferably between the age of 35 and 50 years.
8. Tenure of Appointment:
The initial appointment will be for 11 months including a 3 months probation period. Contract extension will be subject to performance and availability of funding.
