Job Title: Facilitator - Team building and internal review
Under supervision and reporting to: Field coordinator - Slum Program
Duration of Task: 7 days ( January 31st – February 6th 2011)
Location: Nairobi Slums, Kenya
Presentation of Solidarités International
Solidarités International is a humanitarian non-governmental organization which provides assistance to populations affected by natural or man-made crises.
For over 30 years, Solidarités has concentrated its actions on meeting vital needs in the sectors of WASH and Food Security/Livelihoods. In the Horn of Africa, Solidarités is currently implementing WASH and Food Security/Livelihoods programs in Somalia and Kenya.
Solidarités has 3 areas of intervention in Kenya (Turkana, North Horr and Nairobi informal settlements) and 3 areas of intervention in Somalia (Gedo, Lower Juba and Adaado).
Presentation of the Project to be evaluated
The current food security project began in January 2010. It targets four informal settlements in Nairobi, namely Kibera, Mathare, Kiambiu and Mukuru-Lunga lunga.
The project has three main components: Garden-in-a-sack, small scale greenhouse production and poultry rearing.
Solidarites has been working with various stakeholders in the slums.
Key among them is the Ministry of Agriculture where it engages with District and Divisional Agricultural Officers, Kenya Agriculture Research Institute (KARI), The Horti Cultural Development Agency (HCDA), an array of NGOs, CBOs, FBOs, schools and churches.
Project objectives
The project’s overall objective was to improve livelihood of the vulnerable populations affected by the food price crisis in Kenya. The specific objective seeks to improve the food security for the vulnerable people affected by the food price crisis in the Nairobi slums.
Expected Results
Activity 1 - Promoting Urban Agriculture through garden-in-sack and kitchen garden techniques (target 18,500 households)
Identification and selection of beneficiaries Identification of the plots where the greenhouses will be installed.Construction of 7 greenhousesInstallation of a drip irrigation system in each greenhousePurchase and distribution of seeds of highly productive vegetable varieties as well as other agricultural inputsTrainings on vegetable productionActivity 3 – Distribution of poultry Units to 1500 HH

Summary task description:
The consultant will facilitate the project team to carry out an evaluation of project performance from start of project to date in order to draw successes, lessons learnt and best practices with a view of improving the remaining part of the project.
S/he should also be able to take the team through constructive and entertaining exercises that enable the team to bond and build strong working relationships.
The consultant would work with the Field coordinator to develop and agree on the content and methodology to be used for the 3 day program.
Specific tasks/objectives:
